Re: Production Budgets
Hmm, it is still kind of a dark horse in the US, isn't it. I don't see it getting more than $45-50 million in Russia and it could get to that in the States.

$150-170m TINTIN (when the movie opened in Europe everyone said the budget was $140m) $145m MI4 $90-100m TATTOO $70m WAR HORSE $50m ZOO $30m DARKEST HOUR Surprising changes in those numbers. Is Sony hiding $25m from Tattoo's budget? As mark said whatever happened to $140m budget of Tintin...maybe they spent extra in US marketing and added that here? MI4 number is a little bigger than expected and if the movie would not have been doing this great I would have called it HUGE. While it a tad bit lower than the third's $150m budget this one was that riskier given that the last one got the lowest WW total of the franchise. A little higher for War Horse but it will get its budget back, there is still a chance that it gets its budget in States itself....though that will depend on WOM. Great number for Zoo and after seeing the movie today i know where they have to spend the money for this one. Good for TDH as well should be outright success in States as well and I see a big OS total for this one. Summit will easily recover money lost from Musketeers through this, keeping aside BD1's earnings

Re: Production Budgets
I hate saying this because I love the movie and want its financial performance to be seen in the most positive light possible, but--it's amusing how Dragon Tattoo's budget has gone from 125 mil. in mid-December to 90 mil. in January.

Re: Production Budgets
The Dark Knight's budget is already $185m The Dark Knight Rises looks like it will be close to $200m. I think it will be either John Carter or Avengers though in case of the former I believe the actual figure will not be reported. The Hobbit would be close to $120m and won't even be in contention for the highest budget.

Re: Production Budgets
John Carter will definitely be 2012's biggest, "Wait, we spent what on this?!" movie.

SUB $1M The Devil Inside Link - http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/enterta ... sible.htmlGreat budget for TDI eventhough I'm really curious about how much they spent on the marketing campaign. Still it's going to be a BIG hit by the time opening day numbers come in.

Re: Production Budgets
Holy shit. Amazing budget. It didn't seem too low budget in the trailer. Aren't there scenes set in Rome?

That is still a very good number for Paramount and all the people associated with the movie. It is going to be a really big hit for Paramount.

Re: Production Budgets
How on earth can animated movies have such a big budget. either animation is a job with a sportsmans salary or something is up, i know they can take years to make but still
stupid money sometimes goes on voice actors like in shrek or toy story but some of these have no a-list voices
Tangled $260mil cars 2 $200mil Wall-e $180mil Monsters vs aliens $175mil up $175mil mars needs moms $150mil

Re: Production Budgets
I believe the fact that these movies take a lot of time is the reason of those high budget(s). Pixar tends to make really good animation which is why their movies are high budgeted.
Tangled was the case of troubled production. Cars 2 we have discussed the most in these forums (it had to animate two whole cities and the overall quality was just amazing). Rest including Mars Needs Moms seems to be regular animation movie budget, but that was overly ambitious and useless money spent for MnM.

Tangled $260mil cars 2 $200mil Wall-e $180mil Monsters vs aliens $175mil up $175mil mars needs moms $150mil In Pixar's case they use every movie to improve on their animation technique but also their software RenderMan, which they license for various uses to other companies. So they use the movie budget to simultaneously make great animation but also integrate all the new stuff into their software for additional revenue source. I don't really know why other studios have huge budgets for their animated movies though.

Re: Production Budgets
Thats crazy and makes no sense, even if that film explodes overseas like TF3, they will have a hard time making money as the markets where such a film would explode, is where the studios get a small percentage.

Daaaaamn, now I see why you think it bombed in Russia... It was NEVER EVER, at any point, supposed to do anything close to these HUGE numbers. Just because you place TDTEST/Skyline/BLA in Moscow and make it 3D doesn't quadruple the grosses. The closest comparison Black Lightning, which was a complete Spider-man/Iron man ripoff, did under $20 m, and that was with all-Russian cast. And mark my words, another shit like these two from Bekmambetov, and all his goodwill from Night/Day Watch and Wanted will be gone - and he'll be left with his cheap, but well-received Holiday comedies.
