KJ's 2011 Summer Box Office Contest

It's time.

We have a HUGE summer. This contest truly tests how good of a predictor you are, as we're predicting long in advance for most of these movies. The winner will receive a $15 gift card!

There are 20 box office questions asking various box office questions covering whether or not Harry Potter will break the opening weekend record or what what comic-book movie will be the biggest. Each question is worth 2 points.

Next, you will predict what will be the top 5 grossing movies of the summer. No one got all 5 right in the late winter game of 2010. Each rank is worth 1 points with a bonus of 15 points if you get all 5 correct in the right order.

And FINALLY, is the true test. You will predict 25 summer films' total grosses. For each movie, the five closest predictors will get 3 points a piece.

Ha, there's an "Other" option. I'll count that as a vote.

All those questions are fantastic, Magnus. Though that third one seems a bit easy, no? (What will be bigger: Transformers or the combination of Cowboys & Aliens, Conan, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Super 8) I think I'd take out Conan and Planet of the Apes, then it'd be a fair fight. I'd say the average predictions of Transformers will be around $325 million, while Cowboys and Aliens and Super 8 both at around $150 million.

Ooh looks like I forgot Priest too in the poll. Eh, does anyone actually even care about that movie lol?

In addition to the poll options (I chose Zookeeper, The Change-Up and Bad Teacher) I would add 30 Minutes or Less and Final Destination 5.

I didn't even notice there was an Other option. I would have voted for FD5.

I chose Horrible Bosses, Crazy, Stupid Love and Bad Teacher, though why's there a limit?

Larry Crowne, Zookeeper, Bridesmaids, 30 Minutes or Less, Change Up, Popper's Penguins could all be very interesting since they are all original, most have some buzz and are mostly all comedies.

I used to be anticipated for FwB but NSA did do 70m and my Mila Kunis infatuation has died already.

Also, why is Conan locked in? That looks so bad I wouldn't be surprised if it failed to make 10m.

If 18 is the number I certainly think a question on the comedies would be a good one, perhaps predict the top 5 comedies excluding Hangover 2? Just the rank and points can be given for both correct rank and correct movies.

I also like a which movie will gross the most in August having Rise of the Apes, Smurfs, Change Up, Cowboys and perhaps even Captain America and Crazy Stupid Love as competitors.

Will Harry Potter break the OW record? (or any film)

Will Pirates 1-> Pirates 4 have higher or lower audience retention than Shrek -> Shrek Forever After?

Will Kung Fu Panda 2 outgross Cars 2? Or will KFP 2 + Winnie the Pooh > than Cars 2?

Predict the combined OWs gross of Conan/Fright Night/Spy Kids and the combined 3D/2D share.

Another retention question, which will have the worst/best Pirates, Hangover, Transformers, Spy Kids, Final Destination.

Will Memorial Weekend or the 4th of July be bigger?

I'm lovin that retention question, BK. Agreed on Conan, too. I think it could do as little as that, I just thought I was in the minority.

The fact Conan could maybe do decent or maybe be an EPIC failure is exactly why it should be included.

Yay Casey is back I am not adding anything this time to the question list.....but I would say the more to predict the better. (If it is not too much in asking from you Casey) I'd like everything to be predicted.
There are big names on an over-crowded summer, but they will be attracting very similar crowds as well. They will eat up into each others business, so some of them will disappoint. Thus it will be interesting to get predictions for as many as possible

The maybe quotient is really, really small. The trailer is really one of the worst I've ever seen, certainly the worst this year.

^Agreed on that still I am sure that this will make some money...definitely not less than 10m. Personally I don't like any of the movies (mostly because I saw them in 21st Century), but they did make money and I believe there will be some adult crowd for this movie....just to see how it is different from Arnold's Conan....so I guess it won't be a total bomb
