Darling Nikki: Sources tell me that very early numbers show that Sony Pictures' dramedy Hancock about a troubled superhero made a super-terrific $6.8 million Tuesday night from two evening shows at 3,680 North American theaters before it's official opening today. (To compare, Iron Man took in $5 mil from its Thursday night shows on May before its official Friday May 2nd debut, and Transformers earned $8.8 mil last July 3rd before U.S. Independence Day. And those pics went on to become $300+M blockbusters.) http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/

More Darling Nikki:
Holdovers Wall-E from Disney/Pixar made $7.7M from a full day and night of screenings on Tuesday, and Universal's Wanted $4.7M.
Sounds really low to me...

Sounds really low to me... That'd follow 2003, the last time Jul 1 was on Tuesday, pretty closely. Most films dropped 10-20%, and they only needed to face T3.

Re: Hancock - 5m-5.5m in previews (projections, not actuals)
$6.8m would be wow. Only Will Smith could take this concept and make it huge like that, 'cause, frankly, it doesn't even look that great.
I don't see how this doesn't make $100m+ five-day.

Except that family films actually increased after decreasing by less than 45% on Monday. If those numbers hold up, Wall-E's not following the trend at all. Not even close. Bad news is family films took a huge hit on Wednesday despite the absence of a HUGE opener. I have a bad feeling about Wall-E's weekdays, assuming that $7.7 million holds up.

Yeah, that would not be stellar for Wall-E.
Ugh, I like Smith, but this is getting annoying.

Re: Tuesday Numbers (Hancock - $6.8m)
I love Will Smith as an actor, but like Heston, sometimes he is better than his films, which outside of I Am Legend and MIB is almost always the case

Re: Tuesday Numbers (Hancock - $6.8m)
That is actually pretty shitty. Every theater started playing them at 7 PM. and it only mustered 7 million? But given the shitty wom, its probably a good thing.

Crowd reports here and at mojo. I think that the audience that woulda been out last night, the teenage young adult one, is its best sghot for good wom, and if the word "decent" is being use,d with that age group, it is gonna be horrible for anybody who expects a real movie.

Stop making stuff up. I have yet to see an overly negative crowd report and crowd reports are useless for the most part anyway. They're way too biased. A B+ at Yahoo shows decent to good WOM for the movie so far.
