Do animated films usually do this well in Austria?

Yeah they do really well here, no matter how good or bad it is.

That chart is probably telling for how other European charts look like.

The only difference being that Goblet of Fire and Episode III are presumably higher up in other countries.

silly austrians have to watch childish tripe to wich they are forced by their spoiled little brats. the rule here is: the more kiddie friendly, the more successful the cgi animated movie will be.

It looks only slightly different in Germany:

In any case, #8 is not that great. In Spain, we only get one per year too, tops. I envy France and the french industry, sometimes.

Actually, it wasn't a bad year for German productions. Sure, there weren't any blockbusters (3m admissions) like last year, but we had NINE movies with more than 1m admissions, that's a tie with 2001 and a record since reunification... (sometimes there are just two or three movies which sell 1m tickets!)

HP4 nearly doubled EPIII gross there. Amazing.

I would rather have no German productions in the Top 10 than the crap that Germany usually produces. (except for a very few exceptions).

People run into a lot of American crap, why shouldn't they run into German crap as well?

The worst of the worst of American crap is filtered before it even gets to the German marketplace, whereas all the German stuff is released here in theatres. When movies like (T)Raumschiff or 7 Zwerge make it to the top of the year, it just makes me feel ashamed for the German representation of cinema. There are movies like Der Untergang or Sophie Scholl, but they are few and very far inbetween and I consider that the vast majority of German crap released in theatres much worse than the American one because if anything, th American ones have enough good production values.

in my opinion, yeah. its production values and other technical talent involved put the german movie to shame.

Traumschiff Surprise isn't even a real movie, it's more like a 2 hour piece of crap extravaganza from hell.

Austin Powers is also funnier.

And yeah, it doesn't look so cheap.

I've seen all three Austin Powers and (T)Raumschiff. Each one made me laugh about twice (pretty bad for a comedy) and the Austin Powers looked very cheap to me and they had a much, much, much bigger budget than (T)...

You're soooo right about that.

Only 'german' movie I'm really interested in seeing is Merry Christmas.

Even a highly-praised movie like Der Untergang looks and feels like a German tv-production.
