If Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet Did Another Movie???
Do you believe it would open significantly more than if Leo was paired with another known actress who isn't a box office draw like Kate isn't? Would Titanic have a large affect? Y'all are the experts, so what do you think?

At first, the studio would probably trump it up like that in selling their movie, but in the end, it all comes down to the story and whether moviegoers find an interest in it to shell out 10 bucks to see it... Take for example Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeve's.. Both were in SPEED and both ended up being in another movie together just recently but it probably didn't do any better or worse than SPEED did..

Quite a bit worse actually. The Lake House made $52,113,000 or so while Speed made 121 million in 1994.
As for the topic, I'd personally like them to do another romance which is where I think The Lake House went wrong. They really should have paired Bullock and Reeves on another action-thriller with some comedy as that's what people liked in the first place.

Yeah Bullock and Reeves went from action to romance, Kate and Leo would be doing another romance. The studio would hype it up to no end and bring back memories of Titanic. But as to how well it can do - it depends on the film and when its released. $50m would be a minumum and $100m would be likely but no lock.

Keep in mind there is a whole subset of girls that are 20-30 right now who saw Titanic a good 4-5 times in theaters. They'd proably be drawn to a romance with Leo & Kate like flies to you know what.
Almost cruel for the studio to do that though, but it would work.

It depends on what kind of a movie it is. If it is a large-scale romance...yeah it'd be big.

I was actually thinking about the two of them recently, and I wondered if Titanic had been released this year after Leo's and kate's careers have been pretty critically received, would Leo have received an Oscar nomination, Would either of them have won?

I would personally be responsible for $400 of that film's gross

They've grown in different ways, he still looks like a boy pretending to be a man while she is a full fledged adult woman. They'd be a big mismatch if they made a romantic movie now.

DiCaprio is a fantastic actor. Sure, he still looks young but that's a plus.

He has yet to convincingly play an adult. He did ok in Catch me if you Can but once again he was playing a teen.

He was quite good in The Aviator though.

I'd personally love to see them reunite.
It amazes me how great actors they are and how great their careers are now, simply because they were both the Titanic hearthrobs and were part of a film that went on to gross $1.8 billion worldwide and won 11 Oscars, tied for the most ever, and got a huge amount of press and quite simply was a cultural phenomenon. You would think at their age, it would have all gone to their heads and they would jump on the Hollywood train and whore themselves out with the immediate stardom.
Instead both of them dropped out of the spotlight immediately after Titanic, and then built what I see as strong, respectable careers. Both of them are usually bankable, have chosen great people to work with and great films to work on, and have both been in the awards flurry, including the Oscars, recently.
I Kate and Leo.
PEACE, Mike.

No.
Titanic, as amazing as it was (and as good as Leo and Kate were in it), was lightning in a bottle.

It might work if they did something really different. Like imagine Leo in the jack black role in Holiday, that sort of thing.

Yes it was, no one is talking a $600 million gross here either. Would it have an overall effect, though? Sure as hell it would. Just see how Runaway Bride could benefit from Pretty Woman's success.

I was listening to Bob Dylan's "Tangled Up in Blue" this morning and thinking it would make an interesting variant of
"The Way We Were"-type of romantic film...
...funny you should mention DiCaprio and Winslet. I saw at HSX that he was considering producing a Dylan bio-pic about 5 years ago, and as for DiCaprio, give him a early 1970's moustache, long and blond, and let him do his thing.

This is actually quite an interesting question or inquiry.
I think ultimately the Titanic thing would work against this hypothetical new movie rather than help it...
If it were something completely different like an action thriller/romance, then I could maybe see it breaking out.
You know what... I'd actually be really hyped to see Winslet in a suspence thriller.
Frankly, I can't see Leonardo DiCaprio as a romantic lead. I just can't. The direction his career has been taking is completely the opposite way. He's taking on more adult roles and is having a good hand in credits other than acting.

No matter what movie they would make together, I would see it.
