I believe the 7th of July is a Friday so the sequel is going to have a 3-day opening when the original had a 5-day. Keep that in mind!

That could easily change yet, they are just laying claim to the weekend as of yet.

It wont do as much as the first overall, but will have an inflated opening weekend, due the first's success, heres my early prediction, much like Zing's:
Opening: $65 Million
Total: $275 Million
It will have some big competition you see, i believe Indiana Jones 4 is coming out in 2006

I'm really thinking biggest opening ever right now. The first movie was so greatly loved by many people, and even more people saw it on DVD.
Opening: $125.0
Total: $400.0
I usually don't make high predictions like this, but I know this will be big.

I agree, though I see the legs being somewhat worse. The first one's WOM was some of the best I've ever seen.

I wouldn't go as far as to say the largest opening ever just yet. The best comparison would be to Matrix Reloaded. The differences here are 1) PG-13 rating, 2) Currently opening on a Friday.
I expect Disney will move the opening to a Wednesday before long. Current Predictions:
Wednesday: $48 million (largest opening day, largest single day)
Thursday: $26.7 million (-42%)
Friday: $30 million (+12%)
Saturday: $33 million (+10%)
Sunday: $23 million (-30%)
Weekend Total: $86 million
5-Day Total: $160 million
Second Weekend Drop: -55%

It's a lock for a 100m opening if it is a 3 day. No doubt about that in my mind. Like Shrek, Meet the Parents and The Bourne Identity, the original had great WOM. In fact, the wom was arguably better then any of those. The fanbase has greatly expanded on DVD. The demographic appeal is so wide that I think it will be the blockbuster of 2006. I think it will top 60m on opening day considering that it's the summer. Also, based on the past, weekend records are always shattered every few years, and clearly Spiderman's record is increasingly vulnerable by this point. This movie should easily reset the record books.

Unlike other sequels, Pirates 2 has the exact same team working on it as Pirates 1. Same cast, same writers. Plus there's the whole Keith Richards rumor. 8)
Opening 3-day: $119M
Total domestic: $326M (mostly from inflation)
These numbers will need major revision. Trailers and posters are at least a year away.

Saturday: 60.49m +15%

2.8 multiplyer 8)

No way will this make $60m on opening day.
I see this making a bit less or more than the first.

Remember, most people were expecting Spider-Man 2 to open with over $100 million, which just didn't happen. I don't see why Pirates of the Caribbean 2 would be any different then that. Great opening Wednesday/Thursday (assuming they move it back two days), great opening weekend, just not over $100 million.

oh it can I watched this film 3 times in the theater and I know some people that watched it over 5 times in the theater. The first film had an awesome crowd reaction and I dont expect that to change for the second film 8) I dont think the opening day will be the one over 60m I think it will be the second day. I think this film will increase its second day beacause off the tipe of fanbase it has. So everyone that will have wanted to see this film will most likely see it in its opening wknd and after that is all repete viewings 8)
Why would this make less than the first film its got 400m written all over it 8) how much do you think the most anticipated film of 2006 will open with :?: I think well over 150m 8)
