Will Spidey's Opening Day Beat Sith's? Could It Get $60m?
I think it's possible. If the X-Men franchise, which is decidedly less popular (both Spidey films have made more than the two XMen films combined) can get the third installment to open with $44.5m, I don't see why $50m or even $60m should be out of the question. It'll probably have the largest ever theatre and screen count, and virtually no competition anywhere.

I'm not sure if Superman can do as much in total as X3 will in seven days.

X3 had an amazing sequel released only 3 years ago and heavy, kickass marketing.
Supes has a crappy sequel released nearlyy 2 decades ago and mediocre, ofrgettable market.
So, No.
And yeah, if X3 can make almost $45M, S-M3 will blow past $50M.

Should make $48-52 million opening day. Good shot to beat ROTS, but not a lock.

Sith's opening day benefited from the round the clock showtimes. It did 16 million from that mid-night to dawn portion alone. If Spiderman does that, then we have a chance.

I think 60mil is possible if the theatres will throw away all the other movies and play Spider-man only (not entirely impossible -- DVC and Xmen are taking up to 2/3 of screens right now).

Well, I am pretty sure that since Spidey III will open without huge competition screen-wise like X3, it will get 7-8 screens at many big theatres.

Well is Spider-Man 3 opening on a Friday or Wednesday?
If it's Friday, then it's obviously going to blow past $50 million. Spider-Man 2 got $40 million on a Wednesday. It also had a slight cliffhanger ending, whichs is a strong way to bring audiences back (example X2). Spider-Man 2 also grossed $370 million, $160 million more than X2.
I think it's about a lock.

Supes won't even beat X2's OW, let alone X3.

It's a summer start. I doubt Sony will be stupid enough to open Spiderman 3 on a school day. At least in Spiderman 2's case, the only thing that prevented it from having a bigger OD are the people at work.

Its opening day will come close to Sith's, but fall short. Its opening weekend will get the record, though.

Spiderman might, but its in no way garanteed or Likely. Spidey 3 wont be able to beat its midnight, and considering its suppose to be much darker, trailers may divert it from having its stronger pull of the female audience. I think that it may come close to X3, but the opening Day, Sith had a lot more going for it. As of now, its possible but not likely.

Considering X3 got a lot closer to RotS's opening day than I expected, I guess it's possible that SM3 will reach RotS. Maybe if the ads focus on Venom.
But I'm starting to think PotC2 might be able to do it before SM3.

Come on Sith, was the most hyped film of all time and it made 50 million, two years later, Spidey wont make 10 million more. Although Spiderman 3will be monsterous. 50 million will be an outside chance, but 60 million is the most unreal thought of the year, even more than Superman making 400+

No, 60 is reserved for Shrek the Thirds first Saturday. Spidey 3 is going to pen over 50m easily, 54m-56m and its first saturday will be over 50m as well.

What you fail to see is that a film like X3, coming off a much less successful predecessor than Spidey III managed to make $44 million opening day. Mere $6 million less than ROTS. Only a year after ROTS.
Now Spidey III will open with zero competition. Coming off a critically well-received and audiences-beloved $370+ million grosser. Why would it not make that extra $6 million opening day?

I think it will. like Lecter said it'll have no competition and if X3 can manage 44m OD this can do 60m+ OD
