I second this. The Top 3 alone could beat last year's entire Top 12.

Math is more like science than english... To say the slump is over and offer no data is great for those who can read but not think...
1.This year is about equal to last year... Which was a slump.. So equalling a slump means what??? The slump is over or not?? I say equalling a slump is still a slump... Or it may be that the prior years(2003,2004), before last, were exceptional years and thus 2005 was really average.....

2. Number of tickets sold is flat...

Why is there even talk of the slump, not even 2005's slump can be called a slump, I did a report and overall 2005 was much more impressive the years past. 2006 is doing amazing business. 2005 Only had 2 films over 60 million, we had two back to back.

So I third that no one mentions this. Cause it is irritating.

Any talk of a boxoffice slump should have died last weekend.

I don't think there is any real box office slump, but its not exactly celebration time either. Da Vinci and Xmen 3 were just about sure things. Hedge is doing decent. We also needed to release 37% more films wide in the spring to be able to beat this year's tally (46 last year, 63 this year). I'm not saying that there aren't films doing amazingly well, but I mean, look past the top 3 films, and there really isn't a solid overall market. With only three films coming out till June 16th, there's also going to be alot of weak films lingering for quite some time. The market is fully capable of expanding right now, but there is quite a lack of pictures coming out for the next few weeks. Ex. I would take 3 $150 m films compared to 1 $450 m film, as it is a greater sign of a solid base for the market rather than isolated events.

Xmen/Da Vinci/Hedge are signs that a slump is not necessarily a case, because moviegoers are not hesitant to see these in theaters, but there is a great need to get more quality pictures in the market soon.

Is Xmen's drop a good enough excuse to start talking about the slump?
P.S. it was a great movie by the way, too bad it's a one-weekend wonder.

Is there any limit to what Wikipedia provides? :)
