Nah, I think the worst case scenario is the Village. Gigli was universally reviled because of the lead actor and actress. The Village was a turkey because it was boring and talkative.

Huge sellouts across my locality.

1PM SHOWING OF
The Da Vinci Code.
25% full.

Trailers:
Poesidon - Decent reaction
Xmen 3- Decent Reaction
UNITED 93 - My friend sitting right next to me started crying. I swear on baby jesus' life, she just started crying during this trailer. I was like WTF, she said she had no idea, just the whole twin towers thing etc I guess....It was nuts. Rest of the audience appeared disturbed by it.

Movie: B
Crowd appeared to like it, my friend gave it a B-, she also enjoyed it but had a few problems with it.
I guess im just easier pleased than her.

First you say that the "bombing" of MI3 and Poseidon will lead to the closings of theaters this year, and when a blockbuster finally appears to live up to expectations, you say it'll drop like a rock.

Your constant spelling of doom for the box office this summer is at this point borderline-trolling. Please stop.

I'm pretty sure that unless Brokeback Mountain is released or a sequel to it comes out, SFERIC will consider a $70+ million opening weekend as the end of cinema.

I had to buy tickets via Fandango as the 8 and 915 showings were both sold out. I got tickets for the 730 showing, no doubt in my mind that the 7 and 730 and 945 are all going to sell out. This theater is ginormous and rarely sells out. I hate to say it, but this film will be big if my theater is any indication.

My theater has added another showing tonight at 11:45. That's definitely a good sign.

Well, my local AMC is doing really well according to movietickets. They already sold out the 7:30 and 8:45 show.

AMC Tyson Corner 16 has sold out its 7:25 and 8:15 show already. Reston Multiplex sold out a 3:05 show...though thats a bit werid since none of the other showings are sold out.

And AMC Hoffman Center 22 sold out a 9:15 show for DVC. That's pretty good considring it has 22 showings for it.

Things are looking good so far.

Um, heck yes, Tysons Corner and Hoffman are *my* domain. Go us.

Went to a 10.45 AM show uptown. That's pretty early. I checked the display, and all the shows (4 of them) between 7 and 10 were already sold out (at 10.30 this morning). My showing wasn't sold out, but it was pretty damn close. Full or seniors (as its is still a work day I guess). Only a couple seats in the front were empty. Rest was filled. So I'd guess 400 people? I didn't know the size of the theatre, and I'm bad at guessing these things.

Yep. That's where I went this morning. Now the 6.15 has been added too. I'm pretty sure if you check again, they'll all be sold out, at least up through midnight.

notfabio says that Over the Hedge is not looking good for a $40m+ weekend so far.

EDIT: My theater just added three shows for TDVC tonight.

SO, saw Over The Hedge this morning, in a 400 seat theater... about 50% full.. I don't really see kids movies in the morning... so I don't know how that would translate...

BUT! The Da Vinci Code had it's first 3 or 4 showtimes sold out already... and the theater JUST opened when I got there. And that movie theater is very Night-centric... So... I'm waiting til Sunday to see it... so I'm not in the first row of a showing.

A 7:30Pm showing is sold outat my theater which is amazing, because they don't do online ticket sales, and never sell out.

Man, I can't believe Over the Hedge is doing badly. I thought everyone was pointing towards a big gross... lack of kids movies, rocking on moviefone, buzz, good advertising. Bleh.

My theater has now also sold out the 7:30 (which i'm going to), the 8:00, 9:15, and 9:45.

It had only sold out the 9 and 915 earlier.

A weekend under $40m for Over the Hedge would be really surprising. Like Shack said, marketing was solid, it tracked extremely well on Moviefone and Yahoo! Buzz Chart, and RV's drop indicated a need for a good kid's flick.

Perhaps it'll have a really leggy run, but we'll see. It could pick up at night.

Its not surprising at all with all the buzz mainly concentrating on Davinci. Its a week where parents would put their needs first to see a movie over their spoiled whiney brats

It's also...Friday. In May.

Didn't Madagascar not exactly light the world on fire opening day?

AND it has Memorial Day next weekend.
