Screen Counts and Crowd Reports for May 19 - 21
Might as well start this early...
I've just noticed that the AMC25 on 42nd Street, a very busy theatre that gets a lot of walk-in business from people who work in the area and tourists, starts their screenings at midnight on Thursday and will be continuing them throughout the night with screenings at 1 AM, 2:30 AM, 5:55 AM, and 9:30 AM. This is something that has only been done with movies like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, as far as I remember. (Maybe Matrix Reloaded)

Yeah, no 10 PM or midnight showings here, either.

There's just no need for them. This isn't Revenge of the Sith.

I think it's a good move. There's been an oversaturation of 10 PM and midnight showings recently. Both MI3 and Poseidon had them, and we all know how well that worked out.

Are you really sure those are AM shows. The AMC listings around here both on Fandango and Movietickets are constantly wrong listing all their shows as AM shows, not PM shows. LOL.

Sony decided a few weeks back to not have midnight showings, and I agree it's a good move for the movie.

Are you sure SONY's going to stick to the no-midnight showing policy? I have a feeling they're gonna change their mind in a day or two, because that's just crazy. Even if the midnight shows don't sell out, that would translate to a lot of people turned away Friday night, so I would put them up. Da Vinci Code is going to be hard pressed to find a HUGE amount of screens because I'm sure theater owners are still under contract (at least the big ones) to keep MI3 and Poseidon on multiple numbers of screens. I'm really really worried about this. Hopefully they find a nice balance of big screens between Da Vinci and Over the Hedge.

As notfabio reported last week, in Southern California and the theater chain he has access to, they will be showing The Da Vinci Code on 5 screens and Over the Hedge on 4 screens. I don't know if that's for a 20-screen or 25-screen theater, but I can easily see the two films gobbling up 40% of the prints around the country. I don't think they need to worry about people getting turned away. F9/11 is an extreme example, but it did get a $27,558 average while playing mainly on one screen per theater. Even if the 2:30 hour runtime will limit the number of showtimes a little for TDVC, with 3-5 screens, it's more than enough for the theater owners to adjust the allocation, accomodate the demand, and give the film a $20K opening average.

Dropping 1 POSEIDON Dropping 3 MI3's
No funky splits..yet, however Tuesday may have one crop up if they try to add another HEDGE.

My usual theater hasn't released info. yet, but another theater I sometimes go to (eight screens) has The Da Vinci Code on two screens and Over the Hedge and See No Evil on one each. This theater never gives two screens, by the way.

OK cool, it's going to be interesting to see my theater's allocations tomorrow, we had MI3 go from 5 opening weekend to 4, and had Poseidon on 3, so 7 out of the 16 screens, and only 6 are BIG.
I'm guessing Da Vinci will get 4 (3 BIG, 1 medium), OTH will get 3 (2 BIG, 1 medium), and lower Poseidon to 1 or 2 screens, and lower MI3 to 1 or 2 screens (MI3 has to keep one BIG because it's the digital screen). That would add up to 9~11 of the 16 screens devoted to these 4, I'm hoping they can give a 5th to Da Vinci since they did for MI3. AAA!

3D digital screen. I think this is the Irvine Spectrum 21-plex.

Unlikely they will change their mind at this point.

I can't think of any film that has added pre-opens later than the Tuesday of the opening week and nothing comes to mind of
any that added them the week of.

Um, according to Movietickets.com my 20 screen AMC is only putting DVC in one theater... 4 showings. That MUST be off.

At my theater.
DaVinci Code will get 5 prints.
Over the Hedge will get 4 prints.
See No Evil will get 2 prints.
Also, the 8:00 show at Friday sold 50 tickets already.

lennier, AMC (or movietickets.com) is kinda dumb with the early listings. They usually show "advanced ticket sales," but it only shows one screen and times like 1:00, 4:00, 7:00, and 10:00 until the actual screen count and showtimes are released.
It's weird, but yeah, that's obviously wrong.

Then is it the Ontario 22 or the Bridge?

My 14 screen movie theater is giving Da Vinci 1 screen. I live in the panhandle of TX, which is the bible belt, so many churches are protesting the movie here.
