I'm sold, based on the trailer, that this will be a big hit. Jim Carrey is undeniably a huge box office draw, and the holiday season won't hurt it, of course. It'll have some excellent legs, that's for sure.

So, what do you think? Hit? I do!

The original with Jane Fonda was quite funny. I expect Liar Liar type numbers.

39/180

Ah, I didn't even think about Liar, Liar. It's one of my favorite comedies of all-time, actually.

I'm looking for a smaller opening than $40 million, though, because of all the competition (King Kong, Narnia, Big Momma's House 2...).

It is the best comedy of the last 10 years IMHO. The boardroom antics make me laugh out loud every single time.

It will do very well, Maybe Fockers type success. :-k

Tea Leoni has a good comedic touch.

But alas, you haven't seen many comedies that came out before 1990, I'll bet. [-(

LOL. The ending of that trailer was funny as hell. I think this will be a blockbuster hit like FOCKERS:

$47 million opening weekend
$250 million

But first I will have to see well KONG does and what rated this is to really have a good prediction.

I feel completely stupid. Not only had I never heard of Fun With Dick and Jane (the original), I thought this was based on the books... 8-[ 8-[ 8-[

Don't know yet. It looks funny... and IMO much better than 'Liar, Liar'(still think it's Carrey's worst film to date, from the films he has done since 1994).

The audience for the Bewitched theaters were laughing the butts off with the trailer. So we will have a blockbuster with this one.

Even if the trailer wasn't very funny to audiences, it would still make a shit load of money, comedies ALWAYS do great buisness near Christmas.

I have said all along that this one is definitely a certified hit. Jim Carrey is not a draw for all movies he stars in. But as far as comedies go, he's unquestionably the biggest draw out there. Just look at this track record for comedies:

Bruce Almighty - $242,829,261
Me, Myself and Irene - $90,570,999
Liar, Liar - $181,410,615
The Cable Guy - $60,240,295
Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls - $108,385,533
Dumb & Dumber - $127,175,374
The Mask - $119,938,730
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective - $72,217,396

I didn't add The Truman Show, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Lemony Snicket's on here, but all of them made well over $100 million as well, giving Carrey a total of nine $100+ million movies in his career.

Fun with Dick and Jane looks like another dream project. The release date is perfect for this type of a movie. The only problem is going to be competition. Meet the Fockers was released when no other huge blockbuster was really around anymore. Fun with Dick and Jane, however, will face King Kong's 2nd weekend (which will be above $20 million) and The Chronicles of Narnia's 3rd weekend (which probably will still be making around $20 million as well) as well as Big Momma's House 2's 2nd weekend (which is, in the end, a sequel to a $125+ million grossing movie). Meet the Fockers by far and away didn't have any really heavy competition by the time it was released. However, with Jim Carrey and as the month's big comedy, it will still find its audience and I am pretty certain it'll maintain great legs throughout January as it won't be frontloaded at all. Meet the Fockers, all the success considered, was still a sequel and therefore frontloaded to at least some degree.

Now when this movie went into pre-production, Cameron Diaz was supposed to be the female lead of the flick. Nothing against Tea Leoni, but I believe (and as it has become obvious in many flicks), she isn't a draw whatsoever. Cameron Diaz & Jim Carrey together, however, would have definitely propelled this movie to even more success as Diaz is arguably, one of Hollywood's biggest actresses around at the moment. I believe with two of them involved, the movie would even break $200 million, but as for now, my prediction stands at:

Opening weekend (3-day) - $33.4 million

Opening weekend (6-day) - $67.5 million (its Monday is December 26th, so it counts towars the weekend)

Total gross - $185 million

Add the word "her" before the last word and you have a contender to the top spot of the year.

Looks like this could be a really big hit, especially with Carrey attached to it. Of course I'm not a big fan of Tea Leoni, though she was good in Deep Impact.

Competition is certainly going to hurt this though, so I'd say around $37 million opening but above average legs and $170 million total.

Subject to change.

Don't forget that its Saturday is December 24th, so the 3-day weekend will be hurt and won't be really huge...

The movie should have a multiplier of at least 6 with that date. With good WOM it could see a multiplier over 8. Saturday will be quite low with it being the 24th. It will increase on the second weekend, probably by 20%+. I don't think it will open with 30m, but overall I think it can do quite well.

Wed-Thurs - 14m
Opening Weekend - 22m
Weekdays - 31m
2nd weekend - 27m
Total after 12 days - 94m
Total - 176m
