With the huge letdown of nearly all films after Star Wars, I wouldn't be surprised to see Harry Potter simply boom at the box office, and get over $100 the opening weekend. It has everything going for it within the Harry Potter franchise (including hype from the new book) and it has returned to a great release date this year. Things are just sort of working up to this films release. It is, I believe, the first "big" film of the later year/Christmas season area, sort of like Star Wars was the first real big film of the summer. Harry Potter could be the second established franchise this year to surprise.
PEACE, Mike

I agree. Actually, it has a 60% chance at crossing $100 million in its opening weekend as of now. I'll just remain cautious for now, but if it gets a theatre count of 4,100, I'll definitely peg it at $100+ million.
It will also become the first $100+ million opener not to cross $300 million in total, though.

I'm in. This year has been very bad on openers and if there is one film you can count on, it is Harry Potter.
The latest book didn't sell 6.9 million copies in 24 hours for no reason. :wink;

For the retarded folk at WOKJ:
I don't think it will even make $75 Million, let alone $95 Million.

No, I understand what you meant.
What doesn't make perfect sense is your prediction.

NOBODY predicted that The Island would underperform severly, so i'm not letting that happen this time.

The Island was a non-sequel action movie... Harry Potter is part of a beloved franchise of books/movies that keeps opening higher every time... your logic makes no sense...

I'm not explaining my reason for my prediction because no matter what i say you lot will comeback with a smart ass answer to why i am wrong, or so you think i am wrong.
Around here, its either 'all say the same' or 'get slated for a different opinion'.

Do you want a bet, Algren, like I had it with Star Wars. I say it'll top $80 million at least. You say it goes under...okay?

The fact that so many members are in this club suggest to me the number isn't high enough to make it interesting. 100m dividing line would be more suspenseful. Or even 105. The 95 prediction seems to be a general consensus that it will happen.

A blizzard across the entire North American continent. Those Potter fanatics are flippin' crazy: I should know. I'm one of them.
