Anyone think the BOM theater counts are off somehow? Perhaps it dropped 1183, and is still in 1481. That just seems like too much of a drop for a movie that was still doing fairly well PTA wise, 2664-1183. I know there are a massive amount of new movies filling the theaters, but that drop seems too large for this film. I really thought it needed to hold better by Kong weekend to retain theaters than it did, but I didn't think the theater drop would be anything like this (1500-1600 and that was worse case scenerio). I don't see how it makes $100m without an expansion at some point. I also think it is the prohibitive favorite at the Globes and almost a lock for Best Picture nominee at the Oscars.

I'm sure it will get an Oscar theater boost, but they will wait til farther in January.

It dropped around 55% for the 3-day weekend. Pretty bad, but could've been worse.
It stands at $87.2 million as of now. I think by the end of the next weekend it will stand at about $91 million. After that, it all will depend on the Oscars. Without a theatre count boost, it will finish with $95-96 million, with it with about $103-105 million.

It's still trucking along nicely, but I just don't understand why it would lose theaters like it did while Aeon Flux didn't.

Actually, Aeon Flux lost like 1700 theatres this weekend(I believe).
From 2000 to 300.

Great post-holiday hold this weekend. Now looks like it won't need much help to reach $100M. Only a 3.3 multiplier from this point on will do.

Agree! Keeps on trucking in the lower rungs of the chart, a 19% drop is fantastic. Deserves it.

Taking down the combined forces of these two is something that I really look forward to doing. I've tried to convince them by simply expecting them to conform, but they wouldn't have it, and it's led to this. I say that Walk the Line will gross 100 million, and they're in denial, so to make it a little more interesting, we upped the stakes, and the loser will have to see a movie (to be announced later) of the winner's choice on opening weekend, and has to write up a full review of it for everybody at the forums. Those are the only two that I'll be betting with on this particular film, but I want to know about the rest of you, too. I'll be presenting my list of reason for this, much like I've done in the past, and I'll keep track of those who want to join the 100 million Walk the Line club. Stay tuned to this thread, because I'll be building a big case, and feel free to try to present whatever case, for or against, that Walk the Line won't/will make 100 million. Join the group of winners below, and we'll all laugh about it when Zingy and Lecter have to watch and review The Princess Diaries 3 or whatever undesired movie I send them off to. early congrats to the first 5 or so who had the balls / nerves to join early.
When a daring prediction like this is made, it is so much fun to go back to the early pages and see the shit talk back and forth.

It may be able to do as much as $110 million post-Globes.
It will certainly re-expand.

It's funny to read over the first page when the under $100M people are laughing about how they can bump up this topic to make fun of everyone who predicted $100M.

Thanks, Goldie. I tried to make believers out of the guys, but probably didn't do a good enough job presenting a case.
And thanks to whoever updated this thread.

I missed this, I wonder who these posters could be. I will have to check that out.
Anyway, it is just funny that the site allows this but complains about me > most be done by some of the site's favored users.
******************
Also, I noticed that this MAV thread and on other MAV threads / posts, he always seems to be called out by a couple of posters > maybe he should request the site's protection.
but MAV always seemed to me like a man who never had a problem fairly debating his words, even though others battle all of his words and try to take shots at him.
Maybe Z, should watch this as it seems like the site's version of harassment.

Let's wait to see the Best Pic nominees first. It might not even make it.
We are the Champions for picking over 100 million, that was so easy.

Not really... The studio pumped its own money into the final gross to make it seem like a huger success.

How did I get put in the under $100 million club? The only post I made in this thread was:
The Dark Shape wrote: Maverikk wrote: Said the guy who admits that he's clueless about who Johnny Cash is and what he means to Americans. I was born and raised in the U.S. and I have no idea what he means to Americans.
I never actually joined one of the factions.

We keep getting closer to the magic number, as Walk the Line increased again on Thursady, grossing $220,849!
