Maybe LGF just isn't reporting their numbers...

There's no reason why Lords of Dogtown should have a higher Friday gross than Crash.

These numbers aren't from the studios, and anyway, it's not at all surprising for LoD to beat Crash on Friday. Crash can still get up to $2.2m for the weekend with a lower Friday than LoD's estimate.

Still no estimate for High Tension and Crash, but with Lords of Dogtown dropped to $665,000, their projections will be even lower now.

Actually, on Box Office Guru, it annouced that the Friday Estimate for High Tension is $650,000.

I think Lords of Dogtown is just a higher grossing version of Grind. They will have basically the same legs.

Amazing number for Smith and it will see around a 53 mil weekend ahead. I guess the publicity didn't hurt it after all. I'm glad a true action/comedy summer blockbuster is raking it in.

Unless a miracle happens, Sith has no shot at 400 mil unless it gets an IMAX release. Still, a 380 total isn't to shabby  .

Yeah, I guess. What are some other dubbed foreign films that came out? I know LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL was originally dubbed and bombed and was in high demand for the subtitled version, so they released that.

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL was originally subtitled. After the success of subtitled version, Miramax release the dubbed version, and it bomb.

It is sad that Lions Gate didn't know that fact.

I think It was the other way round - they released the dubbed version after the Oscars, hoping to atract the audience who don´t like to read subtitles - or don´t like to read, or just don´t know how to, period. It bombed badly.

Regardless, in the time of DVD when you can watch a movie with subtitles at home in a few months or just download it from the net, releasing a dubbed film seems a bit stupid... maybe they knew something we don´t.

Well, guess this means I won't be fighting a lot of people when I go see High Tension in either tonight or in a few days.

I have to say, I am a bit surprised at HIGH TENSION'S Friday box office number. I figured it could at least pull in $1.5 million because there have been tv spots all over the place! I went to go see it at 7PM last night and there were 12 people there, 7 of those people were with me. I've seen the movie but my friends haven't. They all loved it besides my friend Chris that said it was okay. The audience seemed to like it, there were a boyfriend and girlfriend there and a group of lady senior citizens, I thought they'd walk out but they didn't! MONSTER IN LAW was playing next to HIGH TENSION so I was like to my friend "it would be funny if they thought they were in MONSTER IN LAW!" The film deserves much more than it is recieving, hopefully though it will be a big hit on dvd, I'm sure it will be. Lions Gate should release it in a couple months though, then people that wanted to see it in theaters but didn't get around to it would remember it and people that wanted to wait for dvd will remember it. It was a really great time at the movies, I was happy I finally could see HIGH TENSION on the big screen. I'm seeing it again Tuesday night with another friend. My brother thought it was weird that I was going to see it, he was like "why don't you guys go see something else? You have it on dvd , why can't you just watch it on the tv?" He doesn't understand that HIGH TENSION is a movie you really should see on the big screen. I have a big screen tv and I'm still happy I saw it in the theater. If any of you out there are doubting that you'll like the movie, you should go see it, if you're a fan of horror I'm sure you will like it. Spread the word of HIGH TENSION around to your friends, try to get them interested. I've been doing it for almost a month and it's definetely paying off.

How do you figure it's going to pull off a 3 multiplier?

Saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith last night, 11:10 PM show. It was in a 450 seater and sold out. We all bought tickets for Shark Boy and Lava Girl and walked in wearing those glasses, and though we had to split up into two groups found some good seating, it worked out pretty well aside from missing the first 15 minutes or so (can anyone tell me what happened before Brad Pitt walked into his house with blood on his coat? I caught a few moments of stuff before that like him beating up some guy in a boxing match and a black haired guy trying to get into an elevator (?), but wasn't paying attention until I found seats. Anyways, the movie was fun, but I was left with a LOT of questions. However, the performances were good and the film was just too entertaining for me to give that nasty of a grade too, even if it did have some stunningly big questions left unanswered. B

The PTA is bad enough for Friday that it doesn't have much space to have a lower multiplier. I use Mindhunters as reference.

How much was the budget?

I don't think that's relevant. It's a horror movie in summer, so it should tend to have a frontloaded opening weekend even if the number of people going to see it is very small. I guess we'll find out if I'm right soon enough.

Considering it will be lucky to pull in $6 million for the weekend, the answer is a definitive no.

The budget is probably in the range of $20-$30 million, similar to most urban films of late. Should fair only slightly better then Labor Day's The Cookout which topped out at $12 million. I'd expect no more then $20 million for it.

I would expect Smiths to have decent legs.

Not a sequel
Appeals more to women than typical action movies do
Ditto with appeals more to adults than your averge action flick.

It should run for a while and not fall off the face of the earth too fast.
