Re: MOS overseas! *GULP* SINKING LIKE TITANIC!!
Quote: Man of Steel had the most significant expansion of its overseas release, opening in major markets including France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, and China. The film took in $89 million over the weekend with the expansion and currently posts a $188.3 million overseas total and $398.3 million global cume. The weekend figures include a number of great premieres including $25.5 million from China, $8.22 million in France, and $4.4 million from Spain. The top holdover was the United Kingdom, where the film grossed $8.2 million in its second weekend for a $33.5 million cume in the UK. It doesn't look great for MoS with the data. Its not underwhelming (its doing great compared to SR) but its not doing as great to reach $500m that I expected after the huge Latin America openings. On a side note I can't believe MoS did just $27m-$28m over its weekdays if that $89m weekend figure is true.

27/28M would be 35%+ of its previous weekend (73.3), which is perfectly fine. To judge weekdays, you can't base on the weekend following them - it's illogical.

Re: MOS overseas! *GULP* SINKING LIKE TITANIC!!
I was basing the weekdays on weekend before it. With summers in full force I thought it could have made more than $30m. I am not saying that its down drastically just that the weekdays look a little weak for the record breaking openings it had.........probably the statement was vague what I meant with $89m was that Thursday from some of the holdover markets might have been included in its weekend gross.

There haven't been many updates to this MOS overseas thread - - is that a good sign or a bad sign?

It did over 8m here in Oz over the weekend. With school holidays it should be good for over 24m total.

Looks like TASM was a better comparison for this afterall. MoS was very close to that both in OS as well as domestic total though it will loose in OS as well as WW total.

Yes its OS performance is disappointing but the major reason for that has to be WOM cause it opened fine in almost all of the big markets.

Magnus wrote: I think WB is actually more disappointed in its OS performance than domestic. This should have done 450m+ OS. Don't see it that way. Country by country, it did well to excellent in pretty much all the big Asian and South American countries. England too. Russia, France, and Germany were the most disappointing, but the truth is that was some what expected.

Does MOS have any more big markets left? It looks like $700m WW might not happen at this speed.

It still has Japan on August 30th, but $20 million is probably the max it'll gross.

It's crazy that after its domestic and overseas start, it won't hit $700 million worldwide...
