"It has already broken our record as the top-selling franchise opener. So we've actually sold more tickets for "The Hunger Games" than we sold for the first "Twilight" movie during it's entire run. So we are not just talking about advance ticket sales, but the film has already sold out 2000 showtimes on Fandango alone before it's even been on sale at the box office."

Re: Hunger Games Sellout Watch
Faith Lapidus states that over 15 million tickets have been sold for The Hunger Games before it opened (opens). I thought perhaps it was a typo, but she does indeed say 15 million tickets in the audio just after the 1:10 mark.

No sellouts at the theater I'm going to yet. I think I'm leaving in a bit to wait in line.

My theater in Austin, TX has now tied Deathly Hallows with the most midnight shows they've ever had on sale. 8 out of 11 midnight shows are currently sold out, with almost 4 hours to go.

Re: Hunger Games Sellout Watch
Eigth Friday (Non Midnight) sellout update for NoVA/DC Metro/MD, as of 9:45PM EST
18 sellouts now with 710 showtimes. Through the same time period, BD1 was at 7 sellouts and 270 showtimes. Off memoery, even DH2 wasn't this strong at this point in time (Thursday prior), but it picked up in a big way on Friday.
I'll be doing a midnight sellout count at around 11:45 to get an idea of where this will finish here.
The sellouts are not New Moon or DH2 level however still ahead of all other non HP and Twilight films. However the pre sales for Friday are huge and will do over the weekend...
Also 15 million tickets sold is impossibile, the largest opening weekend only has 19-20 million admissions and its not DH2!!! lol...
Okay around 7 midnight sellouts (with 5-6 more close to sold out).
Around 30 + 7 pretty much sold sellouts for Friday night....
It appears to be this is going to cause a riot on Friday rather then the midnights based on the presales...

Re: Hunger Games Sellout Watch
It's madness here! 2 hours til showtime and every seat almost full.
The record is 11,00 Screens for AWE and DH2. Comparable to Spiderman 3 and IM2, TF2.
DH1 was on 9400 screens. Revenge of the Sith on 9400 Screens (SW play in fewer theaters but way more screens). TDK was on 9000 Screens. New Moon 8500 Screens. DMC 8500 screens.
Spiderman 1 was on only 7500 screens...
So films these days can now get massive grosses and not need to get sellouts all weekend.
I remember DH2 was getting big numbers on Saturday and Sunday even though there were no sellouts unlike for Spiderman 3 and TDK.
Based on past performance of other films opening day of 60 million seems assured but nothing over 70...
So anywhere from 125-145 million looks like the range and that should allow it break 280-300 million.
I am thinking 135-140 million now and a total over 300 million.

Re: Hunger Games Sellout Watch
FINAL MIDNIGHT SELLOUT UPDATE for NoVA/DC Metro/MD, as of 11:55PM EST
87 sellouts on 199 showtimes
A little bit ahead of BD1 in terms of sellouts, and a little bit ahead in terms of showtimes as well. Very strong midnight business for a non-sequel. Will easily blow by Twilight's non-sequel midnight record of $7 million, and is, at this point, probably headed for a good $25 million (maybe more).
*Must be noted that there are 12:10, 12:15, and 12:30 showtimes that still haven't sold out yet, and that mayl sell out in the next 10, 15, or 30 minutes.
**There are a CRAP-TON of 2:40 and 3AM showings for this. More than I've seen in a long time, and I'll keep an eye on those as well.

Re: Hunger Games Sellout Watch
I cannot possibly imagine the appeal of seeing a (2.5 hour) movie at 3 AM. Couldn't you just wait until the next day rather than putting yourself through that?
