I have a difficult time seeing that.

I'm still excited for the film. Really good cast and a promising director (An Education was fab).

I just can't imagine how they fumbled it so badly.

The novel was so movie-ready. Perfect, '90s-Hugh-Grant-esque material. Bit of wit, bit of sap, bit of sadness, two fairly interesting characters, cleanly delivered and unpretentious and breezy. The fact the same day is so eventful for both protagonists every year is a bit of a silly contrivance, I guess, but whatever. Such an odd film to get a critical thrashing.

They should've cast a British actress in the lead role, though.

I can't believe One Day sucks and the Help has good reviews.

I mean, of course it can happen, and it most likely did, but still. The Help just seems like the kind of movie people want to feel good about themselves when they might not be truly worthy of that feeling, not everyone of course, but a lot of people tooting its horn.

Or, you know, watch the movie before you condescend about how you think it might make people feel and it "seems like" a certain way. Dear god.

The Help added 156 theaters this weekend, so a $20m+ weekend is likely. Conan and Fright Night will open similarly in the teens, but the latter will be more successful than the former since the budget is 1/3 as much as the former. Spy Kids 4 (unnecessary sequel, look at Agent Cody Banks 2 and Cats and Dogs 2) and One Day (boneheaded release date, would've done way better by counterprogramming with X-Men in June) will underperform but the production budgets at $30m and $15m respectively mean it won't be a flop like Conan (cost $90m). Apes is 99.999% likely that it will be #2 this weekend. Glee will drop 70%+ this weekend. Maybe even 80%

Well, Smurfs had 22% so it really doesn't matter for the Box Office.

Big difference between Spy Kids and Smurfs since it is a sequel and the marketing has been awful. Spy Kids isn't even a popular franchise. I do find it interesting Fright Night is the only film getting positive reviews of the 4 releases right now.
