Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 (INTL) $471m & counting...
Massive. For comparison, HP7-1 did $114m on its 2nd weekend OS for a total of $383m, which is $88m less. No way Pirates misses $700m OS, in fact, i see it topping ROTK at this rate (did Potter open in all big markets at that point?).

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 (INTL) $471m & counting...
Pirates has opened everywhere. It needs an average drop of 41% to make another 300M which is required to beat ROTK. I doubt if that will happen. But 700M looks likely.

270M is possible though not probable. Potter opened everywhere but following territories. France and Korea are 2 big markets.
Serbia 21 November 2010 (Sava Centar) France 24 November 2010 Switzerland 24 November 2010 (French speaking region) Hungary 25 November 2010 Georgia 26 November 2010 South Africa 26 November 2010 Armenia 4 December 2010 Hong Kong 16 December 2010 South Korea 16 December 2010

Wow great number. $650m OS is happening for sure and most likely $675m, let's see if it can cross past $700m OS total.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 (INTL) $471m & counting...
Yeah, it opened in France on its 2nd weekend (despite that, Potter did less on the weekend than Pirates 4 with no new openings). In Korea it grossed $18m total according to BOM, not that much. I can see Pirates 4 retaining that $88m gap (or even widening it), Potter's legs were pretty bad, its total is almost $660m, $660m + $88m = $748m. Oh, well, let's see what it'll do next week...

Yeah, it's looking very good to pass $700m, i think it might even nip ROTK (unfortunately). It's holding quite well in the main markets and JAPAN, wow.
X-Men will not be a threat overseas this weekend, the first major threat will probably be Transformers 3.

Do wonder what Harry Potter is going to do OS with 3D. It should top Pirates so would that be 750? 800? Should be interesting to see in July.

Some of the markets that is helping pirates like Japan, Russia and China will not give the same level of help to Potter. In fact looking at Corpse's post about Potter's run in japan, its on a sharp downward spiral.Plus its only 8 months since last film and its not even going to get the dollar depreciation that last 2 films got. So only thing helping Potter is 3D(which appears to be a plus in OS markets). But that still does not guarantee 20%+ increase to DH1's gross. I think if Pirates can have 2 good weeks, it could AGAIN beat Potter in OS.

DH 1 Made over 670 OS and it didn't have 3D. 3D is still huge OS and this being the last film I can't see why it won't make at least 750 OS. Also the dollar has dropped sharply the last six months. I know the Euro and Yen has made sharp gains on it.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 (INTL) $471m & counting...
3D plus the fact that this is the very last Potter film and has more action (the first one was a bore in some areas and didn't really have a pivotal climax).
$700m is just about a lock IMO, $750m+ highly likely with $800m a very good shot.

AUSTRALIA (AU$) - Weekend 2
Not a bad drop considering it opened against the huge opening of Hangover 2. Drop was in line with the past Pirates sequels.
$30m looks unlikely unless it receives a huge holiday push, though should be good for at least $26m here. Not bad.

Nikki is now reporting its OS at 483M. I guess that is a huge jump with actuals. At this point 700M is a lock and most likely will beat ROTK as well.

Yeah I don't expect it to do as great in OS on Monday so that seems to be studio estimates including Monday. Still it's a good number (12m) for its second/third Monday.

Pirates is doing great in face of competition in OS. With $537m already and another weekend coming up, it should cross $600m OS total in no time. Though $1b still is out of reach there is a chance to come close to $950m WW total.

JAPAN - Weekend 2
Setting a cracking pace in Japan, it's line ball with Howl's Moving Castle as the largest grosser heading into the 2nd week.
$100m is pretty much assured with this sort of pace
