Anyone know an estimate on the budget of this? I mean, With that footage it looks REALLY pricey. Over 200m? Anyway, does anyone else see this possibly being hurt by terminator? If terminator is a surprise success at least? I mean they both seem to have the desperate people running and frightening machines looking erie and awesome, there is a month there but still.

I don't think the budget matters because it'll pass $200 Million within 8 days. It's only real competition is Harry Potter and that's 3 weeks after TF2's release.

It will pass the budget 3 or 4 times over (WW) obviously, but I was just wondering cause it looks REALLY expensive, way more pricey than the last one (which was around 175m if I remember correctly)

The whole people running frightened while machines destroy everything, which is good for terminator, but I still think this "heavy-hearted" attitude for Transformers is very odd and off.

hmm....still no. Unless I see crazy audience reactions or some sort of jump in buzz, I just don't see it hitting this hard this fast, or making this much total. It will beat TF by 100m, but not much more.

Is anyone else seeing a lack of massive buzz for this film?

When I say "buzz", I mean event film of the summer, you can't escape it, buzz that is typical for one or two summer releases.
I personally haven't seen any film come close to this yet. Star Trek would be the closest one, but I wouldn't have called it's pre-release buzz massive.
Some examples from the past few years: TDK, IJ4, SM3, TF, P3, P2 (came late, might be the case with TF2, we'll see).

 Re: Transformers 2 225m+ 5-day/475m+ Club
I don't remember hearing crazy, event film of the year, epic buzz for TDK till June. Before that IJ4 was getting tons of talk, TDK didn't become the real film to see around here until mid June or so, which may happen for TF2. If it doesn't start getting out of this world by mid June I'll be concerned, for now I think it is sounding just fine.

It was always gonna be the film of the summer after that; Ledgers death just made it go from a 130/350 million films to 158/530 film. 2nd of all...I hope your kidding for real, because TDK was one of the most talked about films pre-release EVER...You honestly must have been living under a rock if you didnt anything for TDK until June.

I didn't say that I didn't hear a single word. The week ledger died there was a lot of talk about his final role in TDK. And when the final trailer hit (not sure when that was, march?) there was plenty of talk then. But early summer there was a lot of talk about IJ4, and Get Smart, and SITC ( I hang around a lot of girls....), TDK was mentioned plenty too, but it wasn't like it was the only movie that existed. That kind of buzz didn't kick in, at least in my town, till a month before release.

Trailer hit with Iron Man in May.
TF2 is much more like Pirates 2, which was one of the quietest mega blockbusters ever.

I think this is very likely now. Terminator disappointing is going to help a lot. In fact, I think had they kept it on Friday it would have probably beaten The Dark Knight's OW record. $65M opening day, $35M Thursday, $45M Friday, $50M Saturday, $40M Sunday. $235M 5 day.

 Re: Transformers 2 225m+ 5-day/475m+ Club
Transformers II could, at best, manage an opening weekend to opening day multiplier of 4. Considering the best Wednesday -- ever -- was HP5's $44m opening in 2007, I don't know what y'all are smoking. This isn't Spidey or TDK. Closest comparison may be POTC, but I don't think people are anticipating this sequel like POTC2.
I see a "safe" $50m/$175m/$360m.
