Re: MAMMA MIA! Global Tracking Thread ($337M) ($90M UK)
It's looking to touch $350m by the end of this weekend. Best case.
There is a definite easing of pace this week all round, but i guess thats just the result of its gradual trickledown across all markets, it's not opened in so many places yet.

UK CUME update
Thursday 21st
1. MAMMA MIA - £734,691 -21% from Wed -23% from last week - £48.414m total gross 2. THE DARK KNIGHT - £361,955 -32% from Wed -46% from last week - £42.0m total gross
The only other impressive entry is WALL-E making over £20m despite opening so soft. It's now over £2m ahead of Kung Fu Panda and with such little fanfare compared to KFP.
Mamma Mia has officially crossed the $90m mark, and should cross $100m by next weekend.

I still can't believe it is having such good drops.
Do you know how Get Smart and Hellboy did on Thursday?
Someone should start a UK Box Office thread. We are one the largest foreign market for movies.

Mamma Mia has officially crossed the $90m mark, and should cross $100m by next weekend. MM's weekday totals are unreal. It managed to increase it's lead over TDK by over £1.2m over the weekdays and average more per weekday than previous weekend. It was at £45.2m on Sunday after a £2.2m weekend and yet did £3.2 from Mon-Thur. Is it getting more screenings during weekdays than weekends? Or are lower ticket prices during the weekdays just that more attractive to it's audience? UPI has it at $221,998,418 as of Thursday which means it's done $15.2m M-Thur off a $17.9 weekend ($206,757,000). ======================================================= From Variety, Hellboy looks to be #1 but with previews added. http://www.variety.com/article/VR111799 ... id=13&cs=1In the U.K., significant openers “Hellboy 2: The Golden Army†and “Get Smart†enter an upbeat market where “The Dark Knight†and “Mamma Mia!†are still going strong. Both comicbook pic sequel “Hellboy 2†(Universal) and spy spoofer “Get Smart†(Warner Bros.) have previewed well this week and bookers are upbeat about commercial prospects for both. “Hellboy 2†is expected to add roughly $3.3 million to its $2 million in previews, making it the top performer of the weekend. Pic is boosted by some warm reviews: “Hellboy is the hottest, strangest and most fun comic book hero around,†praised the Sun tabloid. Exhibs are looking for “Get Smart†to add about $2.4 million to the $1 million already banked in previews. Reviewers have not been kind: “The film is about as funny as a 3 a.m. cold call,†said the Financial Times. “(Steve) Carell has the vocal charm of a broken record,†sniped the Times.

#2 in UK in its 7th weekend. Gross of $98.1m in the UK now. I'm confused.. The above article said it just crossed 90m on Thursday. So, making 3m on the weekend would be 93-95m total isn't it? Or it's just Variety has been off by total again?

Re: MAMMA MIA! Global Tracking Thread ($337M) ($90M UK)
Today, I returned to theaters to see Mamma Mia! with my aunt (her second time). Meanwhile, in Scotland, my parents made the first trip to cinemas they've ventured in over ten years together as a couple. All four of us loved it. My mum will see it again in theaters.
Now I can safely say the above statement is probably the first and last time I can say "my parents" and "went to the cinema" or "my aunt" and "went for a second time to see a movie in theaters" ever. I mean it.
I think We Will Rock You would be the only other event i can see my dad dragging ass into theaters to see.
Oh and both theaters were sold out showings. Incredible. I feel smug that i knew this would breakout big style, but i also can't even claim it would be anywhere near as big as this in my mind.

Re: MAMMA MIA! Global Tracking Thread ($357M) ($100M UK!!)
Adam do you have an updated all time list. The last one public is from early 07.
Variety claims mamma mia's #11th all time in the UK, whereas my charts would place it 8th?

Re: MAMMA MIA! Global Tracking Thread ($357M) ($100M UK!!)
Oh and yeah either my numbers were off or Varietys are off - i think id go with Variety, because £1.5m weekend would have Mamma Mia at £50mish, NOT £53,000,000.
Although, if my numbers were right and it made £1.5m this weekend, it probably would be around #11 on the all time list, so maybe Variety are mis-reporting the total and it's at $94m.

Re: MAMMA MIA! Global ($357M) ($100m UK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
The misreporting has happened twice now for both TDK and MM. Both the total estimates on the Sunday for the UK have been about $5m more but when we get the actuals they are lower. I guess they might be using an older exchange rate but I did notice it last week also. Here is All Time list + Weekly gross. Both updated weekly. Both reported in £s. http://movies.nytimes.com/indexes/2008/ ... index.htmlInternational total $233,939,449 now.

Re: MAMMA MIA! Global ($357M) ($93M UK)
Okay i've looked at it and im definitely sure that they've reported incorrectly the total gross, but the weekend is probably correct.
I went through the UK Film Council archive and updated the weekends in the UK with actual figures.
The total gross going by the last reported figures, ie the stuff i posted Thursday - showing Mamma Mia at £48.14m + the est £1.6m weekend = £50.0m, not the £53m reported. Although, id imagine the bank holiday monday will add another £1m on to the weekend's gross.
I've updated. Variety is reporting wrong. If it was £50m, according to that great list you posted Adam, it would rank 11th of All time, just as Variety said.
By next weekend, we'll hit £54m id imagine, and over $100m. The sky is the limit for this film.

Re: MAMMA MIA! Global ($357M) ($93M UK)
THe sing-a-long is a limited showing thing, like today in the theater i saw it in, there were four showings normal, one sing-a-long.
This is obviously to condense the crowd into a good time for being in the sing-a-long mood ie after a few bevvys.
All time top 10

Re: MAMMA MIA! Global ($357M) ($93M UK)
I've added a lot of new international totals to date.
Not heard much from Spain or Finland on it's results.
Incredible Results: UK, Norway, Sweden, Austria Excellent Results: Australia, Germany, Taiwan
Still to come includes: France, Belgium, Russia, Japan, Korea, Denmark, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, China,
Yeah it basically has the majority of markets still to open in, but big hitters for it have already been banked, UK/Scandinavia were always going to be the big places for it, so essentially, i dont see it doubling its international total, if it does, it'll be a miracle. I think France, Russia, Japan and Italy all have serious potential, but really, the powerhouse places are providing such strong burnoff business that even if they dont provide great results, the film will be ticking along nicely.
I predict a total gross of around $520m

Re: MAMMA MIA! Global ($357M) ($93M UK)
Greece: 563,610 admissions as of 8/17 with a return to #1 over TDK (that has 284,500 total). It's #1 by a wide margin for the year. Netherlands: MM just returned to the #1 spot over TDK (in weekend and cume). It's now I think #3 for the year behind native director's The Kite Runner and Indy4 and closing fast. It's passed 4 million Euros. Hungary: It's the #1 film of the year there so far, at least it was last week according to Variety New Zealand: It was at $3,724,266 as of Aug 17, just behind TDK's total of $3,888,361 and dropping 13% vs TDK's 40% for the week and just $30,000 or so behind for the weekend so it may have passed it this weekend. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/too ... ealand.jspYou can find some more European #'s in weekly breakdowns at the German site http://www.insidekino.com/BO.htm including Finland (where it's back at #1) & Spain. Some in admissions, some in local currency.

http://www.variety.com/article/VR111799 ... id=13&cs=1August 26, 2008 LONDON  ... More predictably, Mamma Mia!†continued to pull big auds in Euro holdover biz In the U.K., “Hellboy 2†opened top with $5.5 million (including previews) at 464 screens. Result was slightly above expectations for the comic-based actioner sequel. Pic benefited from a bullish marketing campaign from Universal and some strong reviews from Brit crix. “Hell boy is the hottest, strangest and most fun comic-book hero around,†praised the Sun tabloid. Box office phenomenon “Mamma Mia!†once again held tremendously well. Boosted by rowdy sing-a-long screenings this weekend, the filmed musical dropped only 17% in its seventh frame to $3.4 million and a monster $92.5 million cume via Universal. [ using a current pounds to dollar conversion] ... In [Germany in 3rd place] “Mamma Mia!,†which continued its boffo run with $2 million toward a $26.7 million cume. As elsewhere in Europe, “Mamma Mia!†is showing great traction in Spain, where the musical slid just 30% in its third frame, pushing the cume to $9.6 million ================================= UPI's totals through Monday: MAMMA MIA! . . . . . . . $238,228,329
