Agreed. This movie skewes older and with reviews being mixed at best this won't get the necessary legs to come close to $300m.

Still, sheer book hype alone can propel this to $250m. Sorry, bABALINA.

I really think TDVC is the only lock this summer for $200m, outside of X3 and POTC2.

So, yeah. Ridiculous. You guys are underestimating the fanbase of the movie, and if it happens to open to anything less than $65m, it'll be big news everywhere.

I agree with Zing...How can you guys think this movie wont do that well....Its been in every magazine every tv show, and the commercial is all over, plus it has a huge fanbase. I've had so many of my friends tell me they will see the movie cause they've heard alot about it but they never read the book. It will be huge.

Consider me a naysayer all the way.. This movie will be more HYPE than SUBSTANCE, whether it has Hank's and Ron Howard apart of it or not.. It'll obviously be #1 for the weekend, that much is a given, however, after the dust settles and the reviews begin to pour in, if they haven't already, then it'll end up being more boring than thrilling and a 2 hour and 30 minute snoozer..

What??? What fanbase do you speak of??? The internet or the real world??? I haven't heard 1 peep out of anyone even remotely excited or intrigued about seeing this, not 1..

Nope. Its opening big. Trust me. People at the book discussion (the fact they even picked it as a regional discussion book is of note) were complaining how their daughters were nagging them to book tickets for opening day. The nearest theatre is miles away from that area.

Wanna see? If it has poor reviews, it won't last much after X3 opens, but that has no bearing on opening weekend. And X3 never appealed to as many middle aged women and elderly. DVC is huge amongst those groups. Everyone in the book discussion group was above 70. Their daughters were already mothers, etc. DVC has the entire older female population in the bag this weekend. Older guys too. Teens is the only debateable one, and the holdovers performced so poorly I'm not worried about them. If its bad, all that means is they'll move on to X3 next weekend, not this weekend.

Plus, you won't believe who I saw reading the book on the bus today? Like a twelve year old kid. I get tons of tweens and teens that ask for the book everyday, so I know it has broad age and gender appeal by now. We get everyone asking for the book. Doesn't matter socio-economic class or anything. Its a bit crazy, and admittedly a fad that will soon die down (or be replaced) but right now there is zero doubt in my mind everyone will be in the seats this weekend for Code.

4000 theatres. 20,000 pta. Probably 80,000,000 pta this weekend minimum. If its truly sitting on zero % at RT, maybe I'll drop it to 70,000,000, but that's it. If it does exceptionally well at rt, nothwards of 90,000,000 easy.

I'm figuring 200m these days. I was very skeptical to start, saying it was a talkative adult thriller with little action or humor or romance. But then the massive hype started, now it's settling down into a mix of the two.

1- old people hate loud noise. they'll wait for the dvd.
2- tweens/teens will not want to be seen waiting in line for an adult drama. it's like soo uncool and stuff.

DaVinci will cross 150m before X-M3N opens (assuming X-M3N opens the following weekend).

Now when you say you saw 12 Year old kids reading The DA VINCI CODE, are you sure they didn't have a PS2 Crackcode book being covered up to make it look like they were showing interest in wanting to read this book??? I'm sorry, but I don't know of any 12 year old even remotely smart enough, much less being ADD that have the attention span to read such a technical book like this without being distracted..

Look, sometimes you just have to buy ijnto the hype. Perhaps if i hadn't read the book I'd see it your way. Possibly, but doubtful. Controversy sells and there is no bigger controversy than someone dissing the Bible. There is no way this film disappoints. It will be massive.

Look, the kid wasn't very far into the book, and kept stopping and looking up (we were on a bus afterall) but the fact that he was aware and had even a desire to read it is a sign. I also remember a bunch of teens talking about how they didn't like the book a few months ago when I was at a different branch, but that they thought it would make a good movie. They were 14 and 15 year old girls and boys. So, yeah...big opening weekend.

But there's good controversy, and there's bad controversy.

Example...

Good controversy - Passion of the Christ, Farenheit 9-11.

Bad Controversy - Last Temptation of Christ, Dogma.

I personally think it falls somewhere in the middle. I'm not hearing a vast amount of people being pissed off about the film. And those I do hear about reek of some grubby studio marketers mitts being all over them.

But Snrub, you do acknowldege that there is a large group of people, that perhaps number in the billions, who don't buy into the bible and its message. Right? And if so, you also have to acknowledge that this is the best selling book in the last ten years. Couple all of that and you have the recipe for a bonafide hit. The hype, the awreness, the market saturation, and the release date all point to Borbdignagian type numbers. It very well could do 100 mill this weekend. I think it will be more like 80, but all signs point to a huge turnout.

There may be billions who dont believe in the bible but i doubt billions hate it or christianity, most just dont care, just like they dont care about TDVC.

They will still be curious enough to see the film. And let's not forget that this is not all just about backlash of the Bible. This is secret society stuff. The illuminati, bloodlines, codes, Merovingians, Knights of the Templar and so on. There is enough intrigue in here to at elast get people curious. It will be huge. Guaranteed!
