Wow.
The Dark Shape will be pissed off. And I'll probably have a good laugh tomorrow (unless I end up hating it tonight).

Zing, if you enjoy this film, I will disown you. No son of mine will like this film! *raises hand in yellow stained tanktop*

There has to be a lot of fake reviews for When A Stranger Calls... no way that rates above a C. It's a sad state for the kids today if they go see it *and* like it...

I'd say so at this point. $8 million looks like the bare minimum. Boogeyman had about 1,800 total, while this one looks to get atleast 2,500 before the night is over. And, even with a 300 ratio, that's still $8.3 million opening day.

It'll need a ratio of 300 to not gross $8M. A ratio of 250 will give it $10M. Seeing how much it slows down late at night if it is moved out of front page will give us more idea, but right now $20M weekend sure looks good.

Teens are idiots.
And that's coming from one
The Island clearly deserved more than what it got..
I think they f*ed up on the advertising on that one...

Fair trade. If you end up liking the film, I'll have a good laugh at your expense, Zing

BLAH, this is just sad!!!
I was so happy that The Fog underperformed. I can't believe this is doing so well despite the very very sub-par trailer. Here is hoping for a 60+% drop next weekend.

Here's hoping theaters burn the prints come Monday out of respect for their audiences. Then again, if the morons pay for this shit, maybe they deserve it.

Now if Hills Have Eyes opens to less than When a Stranger Calls, I will cry tears of a horror fan : (
I already find it sad that one of the very few good horror flicks last year, Dark Water, went by so unnoticed.
But frankly there have been no truly great horror flicks from the US last year (haven't seen Saw II yet, though). The very best I saw were from the UK (The Descent) and Thailand (Shutter).

I agree Lector, The Hills Have Eyes is one of my most anticipated horror movies of the year with Grind House and Slither. Let's hope Alexandre Aja can breath some more life into REAL horror, ala Eli Roth with Hostel.

At this point I don't even know what's more sad. The fact that there are already 2000 reviews up on Yahoo, or the fact that the average rating out of those 2000 reviews is a B. I'll go with the latter.

Terrific numbers after being removed from frontpage. WASC may get 300 reviews for the final 4 hours. Everything from the morning to now looks incredibly strong.

Predictions? It looks like WASC is headed for a weekend around 20 million and that's with a deader than normal Sunday. What made this seem more appealing to teens than last year's Boogeyman? Is it because the idea is more plausible and/or relatable?

It'll finish with around 2400 tonight. Judging from my own theater, I don't think it did well enough to pull off a $10M opening day, but it'll be somewhere in the $8-10M range. I'll say $9M for it, and around $20-21M for the weekend.
Something New? I have no clue, really. I'd say around 500 for the day, 200 ratio, and $2.5M opening day, leading to a $7-8M opening weekend, which is excellent.

When a Stranger Calls 2338, +40, B
Something New 453, +13, B-
Finally Something New is getting a little closer to WASC percentage wise on the hourly pace. Still looks like a $8-10M day for WASC. Something New is harder to say. A $3M will require a ratio of 150. The last 4 hours will be around 60 reviews. If I'm judging on the Yahoo numbers alone, I'd go with $2.5M, but from the report, it seems that the number could be closer to 3.

Yeah, I was going to say that with my calculations I get 9.3m and 2.3m as my best estimates. We'll see if SN is higher.
