Also, frankly, Batman Begins didn't have much competition at all in its second weekend. Superman Returns has a potential $100+ million opener coming out in its second weekend.

Your right, but superman is lucky. anything it would lose in its second weekend due to pirates 2 will have been made up on monday and tuesday-july 3rd and 4th. while pirates will have the bigger 3 day, superman will could win in the biggest 5 day race.

I didn't have faith on this movie back in December then I was somewhat convinced (partly by Superman128 and VGPOP) that this will be big. After seeing the trailer, as much as I liked it, I'm not seeing this as the top 3 of the year at all.
Opening Weekend: $71 million
4-Day: $90 million
Total: $209 million
Multiplier: 2.9

So whats plan B now? First you said that Superman Returns will reach the largest audience because it was going to be attached to two very big movies in may. Now that MI3 did less than projected and Poseidon bombed, there goes its chances of supposed marketting and wowing people. Now its mid may and you said that WB is going to market the hell out of the movie with commericials but the only commercials shown are with Smallville and nowhere else. Yet with all that you still think it will beat SM2 july record

You cant be serious with that statement. You are probably forgetting how many more veiwers there are that saw the Superbowl as opposed to MI3 or Poseidon
Im telling you this is going t o be as bad as your Poseidon prediction or your supposed MI3 underperforming with only 70/200 million due to cruise craziness(I would hate to see what your real MI3 preidiction will be without Cruise antics)

That's a ridiculous statement, excel.
X-Men: The Last Stand and The Da Vinci Code have been attached to tons of films over the past months, while Superman's trailer was just released two weeks ago.

^ which plan will get their movie more viewings given the films grosses? you tell me, cause you think the answer is ridiculous.

Funny how you totally ignored my example of the three movies I mentioned having Superbowl ads that was attached to all 3 of the movies you tried to compare it to, funny also how you also mentioned how SR reached more viewers than POTC2 but you dont mention that POTC2 attached to Narnia. You also didnt mention the X-men trailers attached to almost every movie playing from Feb to May which included Scary movie.

first off all, why were super bowl spots brught up n the first place? we were talking theatrical trailers.
second. prove it. the theatrical trailer for xmen premired with v for vendetta, so how could be with every movie from febuary through april???yeah pirates teaser was with narnia, but i never said superman had a better teaser campaign then pirates. i said it had a better theatrical trailer campaign and it does.

You said yourself that the Superman trailers reached more audience than X-3,Davinci and POTC2 So what do you call those commericials that davinci,x-3 and POTC2 attached to? You mean they were just pizza commericials? Quote: second. prove it. the theatrical trailer for xmen premired with v for vendetta, so how could be with every movie from febuary through april???
So why did you include the teaser trailer for SR attached to HP3. If you are going to do that, I may as well include all the trailers for the x-3,davinci, and POTC2

So, you're comparing the "trailer campaign," yet you use the teasers as your example...?
Quote: xmen-king kong, v for vendetta da vinci-cinderella man, king kong, some other small movie superman-harry potter 4, mi3, posiedon.
Those are teasers, yet you say that we're talking about trailers. So, yeah, make up your mind. And, the trailer for Code and X3 have shown a lot more times than that after their release, you're just pretending that the little hits don't even count.
Also? If we're comparing Pirates and Superman's trailer campaigns, they're exactly the same. Both were attached to Mission: Impossible III and Poseidon.

Yeah its going around in circles besides when SR fails, it will add to excel's record of 0-6, theres like too many movies that was the complete opposite of his predictions from Kong to Narnia, to Poseidon and MI3

lol, get this.
weird as it is, superman returns has already earned w.b. 74 million dollars.
"The idea of syndicating marketing materials online is really not so different from what studios used to do for TV, explains Don Buckley, senior VP of interactive marketing for Warner Bros. "When I first got started in the movie business, we used to make these featurettes with commercial breaks built in, and we'd just send them out by the hundreds to independent TV stations around the country," he says.
For "Superman Returns," Buckley commissioned 27 custom video production journals and syndicated them to sites eager enough to feature the content for free. He started by offering the episodes exclusively to Fresno-based Superman fan site BlueTights.net. But as interest grew, he repackaged the material for other sites , including the Apple iTunes store, where the video podcasts have been downloaded more than 39 million times."
39 million down loads times the 1.99 it costs to download.

also, picked up superman returns captn crunch today. saw a huge superman in the front of the stop shop...not bad advertsing as when i walked in a mom was with her 4 year olf son and he pointed at it and is like "mom! look superman!"

Escalating special effects costs have boosted the budget of Sony's Spider-Man 3, scheduled for release on May 4, 2007, to between $250 million and $300 million, the Wall Street Journal reported over the weekend, citing people close to the studio. The newspaper also said that at least three other films relying heavily on special effects will see their budgets exceed $200 million. They include 20th Century Fox's X-Men sequel ($210 million), Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($225 million) and Warner Bros.' Superman Returns ($261 million). Commented the Journal: "The price tags underscore that effects, not stars, sell big movies these days. It also noted that the skyrocketing costs have result in increased tensions between the studios, trying to keep costs down, and the effects houses.
$250-300 m for Spiderman 3? $261 m for Superman????????? I know Spiderman 3 is at least more of a safer bet, but even all of the strong Superman supporters, you have to admit that this film's budget is getting a bit ridiculous! It would need to do $350 m minimum to start to make money...???
$261 m is ALOT.

Yiiiikes. $261 million is absolutely ridiculous for Superman Returns.
It'll make profit eventually, but still...
