Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I wonder if the man in the black mask is actually Luke Skywalker. Major twist.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Yeah, lol.
It's just in the trailer he says he will carry on Vader's work. Wouldn't be too far-fetched for a son to carry on his father's work. And Luke has not been shown yet at all, so it got me thinking.

Everyone? lol. Are you guys forgetting the prequel trilogy, you know, that trilogy that cost $343m but couldn't capture even 1% of the magic of the original trilogy?
I'm with zwackerm. Capturing the feel and excitement of the original trilogy was not expected at all, and it's great that it has, and it finally feels like Star Wars is a positive force again.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
There's no goodwill from the prequels, they made star wars lame geek material and the opposite of cool. It'll take more than a trailer with great music, generic dialogue and generic sci fi action to win people over.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&ver ... y&src=typdI dont agree w/ these people, but somehow i just knew...the anti SW sentiment among normal 18-35 year olds is real and strong. Its not merely dislike, its 'we wont be caught dead watching this'. I think there a lot more of these people than one realizes. Many won't say anything, they just won't go to the theater. This same crowd was very "OMG Jurassic Park!! ))" this past summer because Jurassic Park was cool in their time. Star Wars really never has been since they've been alive. Far too many of you are blinded by the mere fact that you're finally getting the movie you have dreamed about your whole life. Sadly, many of the folks of age when SW was cool (1977-1999) don't go the theater much nowadays, and the folks who do think "star wars" is "gay" in droves, as evidenced above. Not that they are not interested, rather they would not be caught dead in the theater. The prequels destroyed a lot of the goodwill & will be by far the most popular reason given when the WWW?!?!? thread arrives when it opens in the 140-150 range and promptly drops off. No reason on Earth think this outsells a prime Marvel film like Avengers Age of Lametron.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
The people you talk of are the same people that go back on their principles whenever hype surrounds a film. I think it will make a few hundred million ($200m-$300m), but it will take those people to get it even there.

I'm with zwackerm. Capturing the feel and excitement of the original trilogy was not expected at all, and it's great that it has, and it finally feels like Star Wars is a positive force again. No one is forgetting the original trilogy, but its sole perpetrator and THE person responsible for what it became is no longer involved in the franchise at all. That was known and thus there as great hope and optimism.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
It won't open as high as Avengers 2, but out grossing it in the end is guranteed.
Plus, there have been plenty of other franchise reboots of sorts, and they have never come close either.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Its rather simple.
The Star Wars sequels are not a franchise reboot.
They are the films that diehard SW fans and general audiences wanted all along. When the prequels were announced - anticipation was genuine but the films were a let down and audiences decreased from the OT.
Now audiences young and old have the chance to see the OT continue with the sequels and not know the endgame (like we all knew with the prequels).
The potential is HUGE.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I think an incredibly small % of people under 35 had a real desire for another SW movie.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I do agree that Star Wars was lucky that the second trilogy was a prequel trilogy and not a follow-on from Return of the Jedi. It does mean the potential is there for this new franchise. First one; $260m, second one; $340m, final one; over $400m.

9.55 million views on YouTube, 7.19 million on Facebook. And those are just two uploads of the trailer in the last twelve hours.

Internet hype stats need to be taken with a massive grain of salt for the mother of all geek properties.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Devin Faraci says some stuff I've also been hearing at Birth.Movies.Death: Quote: I already heard some people whispering that the lack of a Star Wars trailer hinted at Disney being unhappy with the film (this is as about as far from the truth as you can get, by the way. They're over the fucking moon about this movie)
