Re: Germany Box-Office Thread - TF3 looking at big numbers
Clearly, there is not enough demand for a 2D version.

With so much money spent on screens convertion, glasses, promotion and other stuff Hollywood is not going to give up so soon. Give people no choice and then say that people love 3-D and always choose it over 2D.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread - TF3 looking at big numbers
And who are you that you can say the majority in Germany does not want 3D?
TF3 was the biggest opener in the franchise, in admissions. People seem to be willing to pay for 3D, that's all that matters to the theaters. When they stop going than you might have an argument.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread - TF3 outpacing the predecesso
The first Transformers finished with 1,511,919 admissions here. The second got 1,906,445 (though I wonder how much the double features have added last weekend).
At its current pace it seems extremely like that Transformers: Dark of the Moon will outdo the first film's total admissions by the end of its second weekend. The second film will fall by the end of its third weekend. 2+ million admissions is a lock. I think 2.3-2.4 million should happen, similar to Fast Five.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread - TF3 outpacing the predecesso
At my theatre around 830 tickets were sold tonight (out of potential 1,354). That's very good, though not record-breaking for my theatre. The LOTR films were doing better opening night. Of course it is by far outpacing everything else this year.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread - Harry Potter
Looks like opening day was the 2nd biggest in the series in terms of admissions and of course biggest by far in b.o.
And it seems that it was the biggest opening day of the last four years...

I'm pretty disapointed in HP's number in Austria and Germany. I know weather was really good but I still expected more.

Actually weather was pretty bad, that's why the other movies held up pretty well...

Well that makes it's number even more disapointing for me.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread - Harry Potter
I agree, quite disappointing IMO as well. I expected at least 2.3 million in five days. But I kinda sensed it when I went to see it on Wednesday. None of the screens it was on came very close to selling out (though to be fair, it was playing on four screens...)

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread - Harry Potter
Only two wide releases this weekend: Bridesmaids and Insidious. None will pose any competition to Harry Potter. I hope it can stay above 950,000 admissions. That'll definitely give it at least 3.9 million admissions by the end of the second weekend.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread - Harry Potter
Photo finish in Germany between Cars 2 and Harry Potter.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 - 603,932 admissions Cars 2 - 603,037 admissions (excluding previews)
Haven't had that on this huge scale in a long while.
Cars 2 delivered a better opening admissions-wise in Germany than Up, WALL-E and Toy Story 3.

Could anyone please tell me about Resturlaub? How to translate it and what this film is about? I got the general idea but the title still puzzles me.

Woohoo for Zookeeper! $16.2M in the bank so far! Looking for an $18M finish! Would be fantastic if it achieves that.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread: Local titles rule!
So Wickie will get around 1/5 of first film admissions. Looks like making it in 3-D was a very bad move.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread: Local titles rule!
Well, this is the way I see it:
30 % drop because Michael Bully Herbig is not on board 20 % drop because it is a family film sequel 30 % drop because of the weather
