I guess it matched your least expectations, pretty severe drop though it was expected. Let's see how it holds next weekend. CA with 3D might hurt it as well this weekend (it is releasing in quite a few markets this weekend), so I guess we will still have to wait for $850m OS total, though with these huge numbers it is highly likely for it to pass $800m OS total.

Dude, Pirates 4 was at about $480m at the same point in time and about $45m came from China, so DH2 is already like $120m ahead when you deduct China. Nothing has changed, it's on course for $900m.

While I do agree that it is way ahead of Pirates, it is not going to hold as well. I don't think HP is reaching $900m OS now, though we will see, if it can hold up as well as Pirates.

It doesn't need to hold up as well.

If it does, it is likely to challenge HP1 to become the biggest HP film of all time in the Netherlands as well. We'll see if it has a shot depending on its second week drop. HP3 dropped 35% on its second weekend, HP5 dropped 31.4% and HP6 dropped 43.5%, if its drop is around that of HP3/5 then I see it crossing €15 million and challenging HP1. The weather is sure working along with HP7.2, Friday was decent but yesterday and today are completely miserable. Bad weather usually helps films perform better, so it might not collapse this weekend.

I Love Netherlands, it's probably the kindest market to movies in terms of weekly drops. You very rarely get a drop in the 50%+....

And we live up to our usual standard...

HP7.2 dropped 35.8% for a €1,739,203 weekend haul and a €6,852,641 total. It was the harshest drop in the top 20, but MUCH softer than the 52.9% tumble that Transformers saw last weekend. If that had been its opening weekend, it would have ranked #11 behind five other HP films and ahead of Quantum of Solace, POTC2 and Return of the King. A second weekend not far behind so many of its predecessors' first weekends is pretty darn impressive.

It was a harsher drop than Part 1 had in November, but that's mostly because it burnt off more demand during the weekdays. It did build its lead over Part 1 by about 1 million euros.

End of Weekend 1
HP7.1: €2.828.080
HP7.2: €3.936.768

End of Weekend 2:
HP7.1: €4.928.502
HP7.2: €6.852.641

It also surpassed The Hangover 2's total gross to become the #3 of the year behind Gooische Vrouwen and POTC4.

Captain America won't hurt it OS at all. I don't see Captain America doing that well in most markets OS.

Doesn't matter how much CA makes if HP looses 3D theaters it will get hurt. It is making 60% of its OS gross in 3D now just make that from 60% to 30% and you can see the difference. CA is being treated as one of the big summer movie in most of the Asian markets and Europe (whatever I saw from the early reports) as well, so HP will decrease withtheater loss, though not as harsh as last weekend.

That's a good point. Though i don't see $900m at the rate its dropping.

AUSTRALIA (AUD$) - Weekend 2

Brilliant hold and didn't collapse like Kung Fu Panda 2 or Cars 2 did (i.e. more than 60%) after the school holidays ended last weekend.

It's tally is now a very strong $38m and leads all others through the 2nd weekend. It's pretty much on the verge of becoming the largest Potter release by the end of the next weekend.

It's 2nd weekend is the 3rd largest of all-time, only behind Avatar and Shrek 2. It's looking to do at least AU$55m with a good possibility of $60m.

TURKEY - Weekend 2

Hmmm....very interesting, well down on Part I which actually still holds the foreign opening record on this market. Part 2 did Ok on opening last weekend (behind HP7-1, Pirates 4, 2012, Eclipse and New Moon out of the foreiners) and did not back it up with a good hold at all.

Not a good sign here, might finish around $4m if it doesn't get its act together....Part 1 did just over $5m.

Dropped on par with 7.1 and defeated Avatar's 2nd weekend record. 7.1 ended up grossing about $4.25m (well below Avatar's $11.15m) though HP7-2 should do at least $5.5m which would put it straight into the Top 5 All-Time US$.

If it wasn't going to be big enough. This will add at least $4m to Potter 7-2's total and potentially even more for Transformers 3 (which i would say is locked to hit $750m overseas).

Hollywood Returns to Indonesia with 'Harry Potter'

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/h ... ter-215266

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Hollywood blockbusters will soon return to Indonesian screens, with the final Harry Potter film leading the way to end a five-month drought caused by a standoff over the country's tax on imported movies, an official said Monday.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is being imported by a newly established local company and will be released before Ramadan, the Islamic fasting month that begins Aug. 1, said Djonny Sjafruddin, head of the Indonesian Cinema Companies Union. He declined to give an exact release date.

"All things such as censorship and subtitles have already been finished," Mr. Sjafruddin said. "We need some 90 copies and they are now under process."

He added that Transformers 3 and Kung Fu Panda 2 would also be released during the next several weeks.

The announcement signals relief for moviegoers forced for months to make do with local productions and second-tier foreign releases because of the protracted dispute between studios, film importers and the government.

In February, six major Hollywood studios withdrew films from Indonesia, a Muslim-majority nation of 237 million people, in opposition to a new levy on imported movies that was meant to protect local filmmakers.

Last month the government announced a revised tax it said would bring back Hollywood movies, but their return had been blocked by another dispute.

Indonesia's largest film distributors remain banned from bringing in new films, pending their payment of more than $30 million in unpaid taxes and related penalties. The film importers are challenging that in court.

The debut of Harry Potter and the other movies is made possible by the recent establishment of a new film importer, PT Omega Film, Mr. Sjarifuddin said. The new company has no tax problems and so can distribute the newest Hollywood movies.

Many Indonesian film lovers turned to the black market for the latest movies during the five-month blackout. Pirated DVD vendors reported a 50% increase in sales, according to local media. Others flew to Singapore to see the latest Hollywood hits.

Studios participating in the boycott include Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Walt Disney Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox Film, Warner Bros. Pictures and Universal Pictures, leaving Indonesian movie fans gasping. Normally, they spend an estimated $6.2 million a month, but local media report box-office takings have been down 60 to 70 percent since February.

Post Re: HARRY POTTER 7-2: Deathly Hallows (INTL.) - $833.9 WW (#
From THR :
Quote:
The concluding Harry Potter installment Braves a 62 Percent Drop still emerged the resounding No. 1 offshore title, besting its closest competitor by more than a $40-million margin.

Weekend take for Deathly Hallows – Part 2 came to $120.2 million from some 19,000 screens in 59 territories compared to the record $312.3 million opening the weekend before at some 20,000 venues in the same number of markets. That’s called a moderate fall from an extraordinarily high box office perch.

In just a dozen days of foreign release, Deathly Hallows – Part 2 has accumulated total foreign gross of $559 million, more than double the sequel’s $273.5 million domestic tally so far. The worldwide box office gross total for all eight titles in the Harry Potter franchise now stands at more than $7.2 billion.

Ranking No. 1 in all key foreign markets, Deathly Hallows – Part 2 came away with these weekend takes: in the U.K ($13.9 million from 581 locations for a market cume of $71.1 million); Germany ($13.4 million from 920 sites, cume $47.3 million); and in France ($11.7 million, cume $42 million).

Warner’s said that grosses in Scandinavia were robust “despite the horrible events in Norway.” Records for the distributor were set in Latin America, Russia and in Mexico. An opening in China is due Aug. 4.

A smidgen lesser than the estimates and according to THR the total is $559m OS, absolutely amazing.

Most drops were between 50-60% and that's without previews. Some even higher.

I think it needs another week to stabalise. Though we're on the verge of receiving openings from Captain America, Rise of the Apes and Cowboys & Aliens in interntaional markets....not that i'm saying that'll all be huge threats :funny:

These days movies are quite big in 80%-85% markets specially opening weekends, so even if they are not huge threats there will be theater loss which will mean the drops would be good but not great. Specially for movies like HP where to meet the OW demand theater owners sack out older movies, though a same fate awaits them and with much bigger force.

When i say stablise i'm thinking around the 40% mark. Days of good holds across the board are out. Emergenging markets like China and Russia have huge openings but fizzle too quickly.

I'm interested to see whether Transformers 3 will drop big next weekend in CHina? Pirates 4 actually only dropped -2% in its 2nd weekend.
