Yes, priorities, no problems....i love your site, i use it to keep my Netherland charts up to date, i don't remember which site posts all-time opening and gross statistics, it's one of those ofificial ones and i've lost the link.

But Avatar opened on a national holiday, did it not? Yes, which makes it frontloaded for the weekend. Is there any competition coming up in Japan? Well some Japanese concert film is releasing on 5th January

Sherlock did like 5M in two days Maybe Britishers didn't like Avatar that much Sherlocke is obviously going to be a draw in the UK, especially when the director is also British. That's what happens when you've got competition and interest.

May I remind you that most openings last week were nothing special (including the U.S.A.) and it's all about LEGS, LEGS, LEGS... Exactly, Titanic wasn't that impressive on openings comparatively...it was actually not too dissimilar to it....though look where Titanic ended up with.

And anyway, Alvin beating Avatar there is a disgrace! UK had so much potential, it's the 2nd biggest OS market behind Japan... Come on Brits, show me next weekend you can do better! Don't worry about that drop in the UK, there are barely any theatres open on Christmas day here. It's just not a done thing to go see a film, everyone is with family etc. I remember in 2005 Kong's second weekend, christmas eve was saturday, christmas day sunday and it dropped something rediculous like 80% that weekend, people wrote it off. Opening weekend was £6,944,740, second weekend £1,928,032. It went on to finish with about £30million. Dailies will be very strong for Avatar from here on. KK and Avatar shouldn't be brought up in the same sentence. KK was a major BO disappointment. Avatar has already beaten KK in North America and overseas i.e. worldwide King Kong did not translate that well to Europe considering it's mostly an AMerican cult story....KK played well in Asia because of the SFX and action and big sets. I think Europe is more picky with their big budget extravaganzas.

Someone on BOM said that someone else said that China's release is postponed till January 4th. True?
And apparently Japan theater count was reported wrong, it's on 831 screens and 283 of them are 3D.

As far as I know 2009 already fulfilled the 20 foreign movies quota that's why AVATAR opens in 2010...

Yes but i though it opened on January 1st (or 2nd according to imdb). IMDB could be wrong, best to check one of those official movie sites in China to see what release date they have.
