Off-topic: I really think It is not a good idea to criticize other people´s intelligence just cause they won´t like the same movie you do. Maybe I´m dumb, but I found the twist stupid as hell, in first and second thought. More than art-house, I found it Z-series... And anyway, the twist and all that should influence WOM, not the opening... Unless everybody is a spolier obsessed Internet freak, just like we all are here. Which I don´t think It´s the case.
Oh, and I loved "Open water". And that did a lot more than High Tension on first weekend, so what do they have to do with each other? If you are comparing both movie´s legs, we do´n´t know yet how the WOM for HT is going to be.

Very nice numbers for the Smiths. The other openers - not so much. If nothing else that does seem to be the reason this year isn't doing so well - Memorial day weekend was one of the few where more than one opener met or exceeded expectations. At least that is how this year has seemed to play. It will be interesting to see where Crash & Howl end up. I'm not entirely convinced at this point that LOD will actually end up in the top ten by the end of the weekend.

I would love if Crash could pull out one more week in the top 10.

I thought Cinderella Man might drop a bit high due to low dailies. Monster-In-Law's drop is unexpected for me.
I didn't think High Tension would become another The Jacket, but it did!!! Grr!

Pretty surprised by Madagascar's legs. You realize it opened third, and since then has remained slotted above its opening stand for two weekends running already. That's pretty remarkable. Nice hold for SIsterhood too.
Anyone know what Howl's Moving Castle opened to? Especially per/theatre average?

I told you HIGH TENSION was gonna suck with the general audience and should've went straight to DVD.. What did some of you really expect?? hat it was gonna open that much higher.. Also, nice hold for SITH.. Perhaps it will squeek it's way close to 400 Million if it keeps up that pace.. I mean what other openers do we really have coming up other than BATMAN and WOTW?? I don't see FF4 doing very well either and also looks like FOX screwed the pooch with that one.. Wasted potential at it's finest..

Still no estimate for High Tension and Crash, but with Lords of Dogtown dropped to $665,000, their projections will be even lower now.

Haha! I knew Lords was going to have a weak run. I could tell by how they promoted it. Wrong audiance. Instead of making it a docu-drama trailer with potential historic significance to the founding of the movement, they made it look like a rock star celebrity bit. The implosion of The Door,s, but not tied to any big name like that. Too wide release as well. It should have been released and marketed as an indie basically.

Not only has Fox gambled with FF, but with Silver Surfer as well. Both set up at the same studio, crossover opportunities galore.

Plus it held extremely well even with Shark Boy and Lava Girl.

BOM's numbers are all lower except for Monster-In-Law which now jumped up to $1 million.

You see?? I could totally get into a Silver Surfer movie, BUT only if FOX will spend a little more cash and get a better director than a guy like Tim Story who did a movie like BARBER SHOP.. What were they thinking?? Get someone who's a fan of the comic and has a spirit for wanting to do it right, kind of like Sam Raimi is to SPIDERMAN or Nolan is to BATMAN now..

Yes I definately agree with you two  . Let the hate for F4 "Begins". If Batman Begins does real well, it will spell "Doom" for F4. I fit two puns into one paragraph heh

Here are my projections for the Smith movie. Everyone listen, cause I am awesome at this.
Ok, so obviously the film will increase 100% on saturday. I figure that everyone was out last night busy celebrating graduation and so not even nearly the viewers who wanted to see it saw it. Plus, like... Shrek 2 jumped around 100% on its first weekend, and it has basically the same demographics.
18.3 + 36.6 = 54.9
Then I predict a paultry 33% drop on sunday because school is out and this movie will have fantastic word of mouth!
54.9 + 24.4 = 79.3 opening weekend.
110 final gross.

For High Tension. I chose a middle ground. It still could pull a Shawn of the Dead on us though.
The Saturday increases should be good for holdovers since Mr. & Mrs. Smith will have a smaller share of the pie for overall box office on Saturday than on Friday.

Now that High Tension is dead, can we do away with the massive signatures?
Please?

Awesome numbers! Terrible derby for me though.
I think I might officially retire like Ragnarok did. I mean, I've already done what I've wanted to do too: get #1 once in the derby, and I've done that. I just keep getting worse and worse. I should bow out while I still can.
PEACE, Mike
