Even the negative reviews hint that it could be a lot of fun for mr. and mrs. joe average.

I don't buy the theory of "box office poison" that's associated with people like Jolie and Jude Law. It's not that these people are hated and dispised by the general public. They could easily stumble upon a film that the public has interest in seeing.

I am saying low 40s, which would be pretty damn good.

Lots of people I've talked to, seem to have a really bad attitude about this movie - so I'm thinking closer to $40 million than $50...

This will open between $45-$53m - dont delude yourselves - this will be a big hit.

I don't think Hit is the question. It could have short legs if its actually a poorly done film. Opening weekend is about the promotions, the stars, buzz, and the competition.

For me (not saying much, I know) the competition is non-existant at this point, and the trailers/promo got warm responses from audiances I was with. The stars are well liked, and there's plenty of buzz due to "the breakup." SO it has everything going for its opening weekend.

With Batman next week though, expect a 52% plummet even if its good. Closer to 60% is its not.

Ah, screw it. I'm in. This is so going to make $50 million this weekend.

I'd say a $51.3 million opening ($15,000 PTA) and a $154 million total gross.

Uh. Oh.

Is it going to be like his XXX2 prediction or ROTS prediction?

I'm still sticking with my $34.3 million prediction. I don't see an opening bigger than Ocean's 11 or Charlie's Angels. This has a much smaller concept and its premise is a bit out there.

Hey, hey, hey...

I nailed The Longest Yard. And, I was close on ROTS.

It's just XXX, House of Wax, and Kicking and Screaming that made me look bad. :-#

(I probably won't go over $50 million for my derby, though)

You did great with ROTS and Especially TLY. I'm just giving you a hard time.

BTW, box, you don't have a list of the people in this $50M OW group in the first post.

Heh, I know. I've been feeling good about this one from the start, though. I just never saw a $50 million opening weekend until now. It's still a stretch, I'll give you that. I, Robot got a $15,200 PTA, but I'd say Will Smith has more star power in his pinky than Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie combined. Still, the trailers and commercials are all over the place, and their all action packed. I don't see how this can open to lower than $40 million this weekend.

I agree and I would consider it a slight disappointment if it did less than $40M.

It has the potential to do $50M OW. The first big action comedy of the summer with something for all demos.

And the I, Robot trailers and commercials weren't all over the place and action packed?

How would a theater owner know anything about that before it even opens. Give me a rbeak.

Hahaha, it reminds me when I was at the theater Friday when Star Wars had just come out, and when I asked the person about it they were like "Oh yeah it's made 77 million. It made more today then yesterday." When I asked if they were coutning the midnight shows, they said "No, those went to Wednesday grosses." Huh?

This may sound far-reaching but

Maybe the theater owner is trying to pump up the anticipation for the movie.
