Screen Counts and Crowd Reports for Star Wars Weekend.

God I'm tired

Davenport

Sith - 1205AM sold out (theater went from 3 screens to 9 for the midnight showing, all sold out)

Trailers -

Batman Begins - some chatter.
Mr and Mrs Smith - some whistling for Jolie
War of the Worlds - biggest reaction. I think I saw an alien. \:D/
Cinderalla Man - no reaction.
FF - People laughed at the Human Torch. That was the sole reaction.

The Movie -

Just as good the second time around. Fav duel is still Mace's.

I got to the theater around noon, I was 25th or so in line. The Quad City line party guys went all out with movie grade costumes and ended up with lots of media attention. I got a little heated after finding out the entire line party was able to enter the theater early and claim the entire middle section (including a few dozen seats for people who didn't bother to wait in line for 12 hours). I understand that some of them did a lot of work on costumes, including a fully robotic R2-D2. And spent hours posing for pics. At the same time, it's bs. Other people, including me, went in costume but didnt happen to be part of the line party.

That said, Sith gets an A. Again. \:D/

ROTS
12:01 AM
442 Seats Sold Out, 9 of 9 midnight shows sold out

Trailers:
Fantastic Four
Batman Begins
The Island
Narnia
Mr. amd Mrs. Smith

Got there at 8:00 PM. The crowd got really wild and it was fun. I have some pictures also.

Movie:

Fabulous. The visuals are brilliant. Lucas has done a masterful job. Ewan Mcgregor, Hayden Christensen and Ian Mcdermid all give strong performances. The duels are fantastic, especially at the end in the senate between Yoda and Sidious. This story ties in perfectly to ANH.

A+

Egypt..
Stars Cinema, 12:30 AM
85% full

Trailers:
Batman Begins
House of Wax

Thought on movie:
I really enjoy it (much more than the first two). Though, I was a bit confused in first half of movie like who is this guy, who is that etc. (I'm not SW fan AT ALL, however). So, I think it's not movie's fault, but mine.

Besides that, it has everything you could expect from Star Wars and much more. I went to see this movie with my dad (one of SW big fan, I think), he was totally stunned in everything in movie.

What made the movie IMO, however, is the conclusion (last 30 minutes, I assume) which is so powerful. It was so perfect set-up for OT.

SW fans (like my dad) will absolutely love it. Those who aren't (like myself), well, will at least enjoy it.

****/*****

crowd love it! (more than half of them are non-Egyptian)

Was it a new War of the Worlds trailer guys?

Short and sweet: Saw the midnight show at Tigard, one of the four (every one sold out). Trailers were:

The Longest Yard (Tons of laughter, the biggest reaction, other then the movie below)
Batman Begins (People CHEERED at the WB screen, then were the most silent the riled up crowd was the entire film while focusing. Great, great reaction)
Chronicles of Narnia (Lots of people focused, but at the end someone yelled "NARNIA IS FOR FAGS!" and it got the most laughter of anything in the entire theater)
Stealth (A lot of chatter afterwards, a very well made ad)
Fantastic Four (A lot of people clapped to some extent early on, laughed a lot. Decent reaction, but nothing amazing. I'm going to lower my prediction slightly to 42/125)

No War of the Worlds, new or otherwise!

See the Grade Forum thread for my thoughts on the movie.

Oops. Forgot one. We also saw a trailer for Pink Panther. That one got some good laughs.

So, we had 7 trailers...

Oh, and the WotW was new to me.

We had some clonetroopers and an Imperial Guard at our theater--very good, high-quality, professional costumes. Makes me wonder if they were part of the 501st or whatever it is.

Blitz Cinestar 3.00pm

Around 40% full, and not sure what that means as haven't been in theater in quite a while.

It seems though that later shows have a high high chance of being sold out.

Trailers were crap, especially only one that got applause, War of the Worlds. Crap it was because it had only sound, and it got applause for the same reason. Thankfully, the projector man figured out just as Star Wars logo hit the screen.

Movie was absolutely amazing, much better than I've expected. And prolly it's my new favorite movie of all time.

48 out of 48 stars!

Guys, no Madagascar previews????

Anywhere?

Oh man, it would have been such a great move on DW's part to attach it to SW3. 20-26m people will watch this film over the next 4 days

I hadn't seen it before. I do believe we see an alien walking pass a window in the very last shot (and not the tentacle from the Enterprise tv spot). =D>

Star Wars -- Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
12:01 AM, Thursday, May 19th, 2005

One of five shows, judging by the crowds average was about 80%+ full. The theater I was in was about 90% full.

Trailers:

Mr. and Mrs Smith
Batman Begins
War of the Worlds
Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
Fantastic Four

Movie:

Second best of the double trilogy, well deserving of all of the hype. In short, it is a masterpiece, and the first 2005 film to get an A from me. 9.0/10 (A)

There was a short round of applause after the film ended as well.

Spoke to my Midnight buddies. SITH showed on nearly every screen at my local multiplex at midnight in a special presentation. My Odeon bud said all were sold out. When i text him about an hour ago he said "Cant get off work, this star was buisness is crazy they are paying me double time for tonight" The car park was full at 2.30pm when i passed in my bus, that never usually happens apart from on blockbuster saturdays.....

Suffice to say its everywhere today.
Will see it within the month; seeing TPM on Sunday, then AOTC on Tuesday probobly.

Perhaps the most suspicously over-opinonated crowd report ever :P

Yes, everywhere except S. Korea and Japan. Reason: To be one step ahead of film pirates, esp. in Asia.

Em, I expect at least $300m by this time next week. It will be anywhere between $400-450m after 12 days on Memorial Day Monday.

AMC Grand 24 (Dallas,TX)
May19, 1201am
100% Full
Trailers
Cinderrella man- Blah no response
Stealth- Wow, Looks hot, great response clapping
Mr &Mrs Smith- same as Stealth
SharkBoy & Lava Girl- Boo's
Fantastic 4- the crowd went wild, awesome new trailer
War of the worlds- Muted response, lot's of it looks ok.

This is the last time I let my friends talk me into going to the Grand! This theater didn't give a shit about people carrying in all types of gear(Laptops, Camera's, Pizza's you name it) i bet I can buy the bootleg copy of it by Noon today. This dispite the fact that they brought in the police when fans started role playing Light saber duels  It was nice of them to allow seating inside the theater 2 hours before the show and were selling popcorn, hotdogs, and soda for a $1 each, but I can't beleive they have the A/C on an automatic timer that only turns on when there is a movie playing.
By 12 it was hot as an oven with 500 raving fans. No one could get comfortable until the last 45 minutes when we finally felt cool air. Despite the torrid conditions the crowd loved it however because of the heat I believe everyone left the theater like a fire drill just to get fresh air. So there were no standing ovations and clapping until everyone hit the parking lot  \:D/ For me personally this is diffinately a movie I will be giving multiple viewings it's that entertaining! Probably will go back at least 2 twice this weekend. the only thing that bugged me was the silly belly growing pregnant Natalie Portman. she went from not showing to barely to fully grown to having huge babies within the last hour with no reference to time. The most badass moment though had to be "The Choke" and that's all i'll say as to not spoil it for anyone any further.

A-

Madrid, 19:00 session, VO cinemas.

Completely sold out. So was the last session, since this morning actually.

Trailers: Just saw "War of the worlds", the teaser. No reaction.

The movie: I am glad people enjoyed it... here -there was some clapping at the end- and in the forums. Unfortunately I couldn´t... for me It was only marginally better than AOTC, and that was one of the most painful experiences of my cinema-going life. The script is still pretty afwul, with exposition being declamed in the most boring and stiff way with wooden acting to boot, there is no real sense of menace or danger, not one single surprise in the whole film...It was just simply boring and more of the same, hardly redeemed by some darkish touches that didn´t make much sense or were any dramatic at all... Just IMO, of course. But hey, If you liked it, more power to you! I did try *1/2/*****

9.15pm Cineworld Cinema - Cambridge, England

Stated as sold out but,

Around 160/200 seater

Only 2 sold outs at this cinema in the whole day.

The movie was, unfortunately; crap. Too much hype around it. Very, very bad dialogue, and atrocious acting. The only good point is the action sequences just about happen at the right times, to stop you from falling asleep.

2/5
