Re: Early Friday numbers (siren noise)
Maybe people are sick of Jennifer Lawrence talking politics.
1) Wages relative to male co-stars; and 2) Embarrassed to be from Kentucky where Kim Davis (the idiot that refused to sign off on same sex marriages) is from.
I may be way off, and agree that franchise fatigue set in.

She is a nagging little bitch, I agree. And people can be turned off by this sort of thing. She is a multi-millionaire and she is complaining about salary inequality - lower class American people are like "I'm struggling to pay my bills, why do I give a shit about some rich bitch?".

I may be way off, and agree that franchise fatigue set in. she also in a recent interview attacked Christian and Republicans. I am not a Christian or Republican my self, but you don't go attacking a large percentage of the population like that that could potentially be audience for your movie.

what's the biggest opening day for a movie that failed to reach 100m in its opening weekend (3-day-openings only)?

Maybe that is the case, I doubt it, but we cannot ever know the true cause(s) for why a film failed with certainty. It is not like we have multiple variables we can test. A film is created and released once. No way to measure variables that contributed to its success or failure, though we can attempt guesses and replicate them in future, but different, films.

Yeah, I guess this goes on to show how impressively Twilight has performed and how loyal it fanbase has been.

I want to blame it on Mockingjay - Part 1 being such a dull, dull, dull experience.

David wrote: I want to blame it on Mockingjay - Part 1 being such a dull, dull, dull experience. That's exactly what it is. It soured a lot of people on the series. I've heard from so many people how much they disliked Part 1. I myself was really high on the franchise until that one. It killed the momentum. Brooklyn did great. An average above $10,000 (they're projecting $10,619) from 113 theaters for it is impressive. Should be in 500+ theaters for Thanksgiving and I think it should do really well over this frame.

Both Brooklyn and Spotlight expanded very nicely. The better they do now the better they look at the Oscars, which can only help hem further. Carol is off to a really nice start too. Hopefully that expands well also.

It will only open in the D.C. market on Christmas Day.

Re: Early Friday numbers (siren noise)
Given the extra hour of Thursday previews, everything else held constant, this should have a stronger Saturday jump than MJ1's +7.3%.
Here are the previews as a percentage of Friday for the 4 Hunger Games films: Spoiler
THG: 41.5% CF: 54.4% MJ1: 44.6% MJ2: 53.3% (est.)
Here are the previews as a percentage of opening day for the 4 Hunger Games films: Spoiler
THG: 29.3% CF: 35.2% MJ1: 30.8% MJ2: 34.8% (est.)
Here are the Preview -> Friday increases for the 4 Hunger Games films: Spoiler
THG: +140.7% CF: +83.8% MJ1: +124.4% MJ2: +87.5% (est.)
Currently, CF's daily shifts make the most sense for MJ2:
16.0M Previews 30.0M Friday 34.5M Saturday (+15.0%) 22.4M Sunday (-35.0%)
86.9M 3-Day 102.9M OW
THG (2.92), CF (3.0), MJ1 (3.05), all hit a ~3.0 multiplier from the 3-day weekend. The same for this would yield a 276.8M DOM total.

Re: Early Friday numbers (siren noise)
We should also mentiom that Mockingjay Has a real bummer ending. There's no big triumph like in Harry Potter or Twilight. Katniss gets the job done and her reward is watching her sister get blown up right afterwards. So legs might be poor too.

Technically Twilight also doesn't have any big ending. We already knew that Cullens were going to be together and alive from the beginning.

Re: Early Friday numbers (siren noise)
This decline does make more sense than MJ1's. MJ1 actually had a mixed response, but it was following Catching Fire, which had great WOM. What would have made sense would have been an opening on par with the first two followed by much worse legs. But why it opened so much Lower, I still cannot figure out. People should have been eager to see what happened to Katniss after that cliffhanger, even if they were bored with the answer.
