I went to cinemark website and purchased 2 tickets to first showing (3D 7pm). I also purchased 1 ticket to the 1pm Friday 18th showing at Alamo Drafthouse. Mainly cause for extra $15 you get Star Wars beer stein and magazine celebrating 40 years of Star Wars HOORAY! And the from what I see the first showing at the IMAX here in Phoenix IS sold out. the 1030 not yet. I'm still working on trying to get IMAX tickets....but the Edwards theater works with Fandango and that fucking site is still acting up for me. GOT MY IMAX TICKET FINALLY! I had to get it for the sunday 1pm showing though. but i got to pick my seat and it's PERFECT! Middle row, center seat.

Some do. Most don't, in America. A lot in Cali do, I've noticed. And a few in AZ I've seen, usually the ones that sell dinner.

Many L.A. theaters do. Saves a lot of hassle of having to get there early and line up for a decent spot. Also, the El Capitan (which has a capacity of 1,100) sold out the 1 a.m. marathon, as well as the 10:30 p.m. Ep VII. AMC Burbank 16 has sold out one marathon and has another available. Tickets for these things are ridiculous -- I paid $50 at the El Capitan, while AMC charges $60.

One 1 sellout at our Lie-Max in Louisville. Strangely, it's for 9:20pm and not the first showing at 7.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Shatters Ticket Sales Records“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has established a new record, bypassing “The Hunger Games” as to move the most tickets in its first day on sale, Fandango reports. It didn’t just surpass that picture, it shattered its benchmark, outselling “The Hunger Games” eight times over. http://variety.com/2015/film/news/star- ... 201621977/

Fandango is stupid. Everything breaks every record.

It came really bloody close, and it didn't have the benefit of 3D and IMAX surcharges.

Sorry, I was looking at Catching Fire for some reason. Then 2 months later, Avengers blew it out of the water...
Weird, what comes shortly after Star Wars 7....

The 8x higher is from Fandango, comparing not yet first 24h vs. 24h from THG. The theater chain AMC reports 10x bigger first day sales than their previous record holder...

THG, whose MASSIVE pre-sales led to a MASSIVE... less than half the record of HPDH2.

So It's grossed $6.5 million in IMAX tickets, while Deadline says Catching Fire, TDKR and Avengers had $1 million pre-sales but I don't know if those were first day numbers.
