yeah I know, did we not learn anything from Thor 2? None of the non RDJ Marvel films are going to be huge performers. And given the audiences the choice between a Cap movie and a movie with Batman in it alone, pretty much all general audiences will choose the latter.

Except Manny and many others

I think you guys forget for comic book films making over half a billion is massive.

I wonder when a B list DC comic hero will make 500 + WW anytime soon. :P

Of course this will be bigger and its folly to release on the same date.

However to say 500 + million WW is not a big hit for a comic book film is absurd unless he is IM, Spiderman, Superman or Batman.

I guess Disney never actually announced it, but they've now officially planted CA3 down on the May 6, 2016 date. They really aren't backing down from this. And considering that they claimed the date over a year ago before BvS was even announced (let alone pushed back), they really shouldn't.

So why not the other way around and have CA3 move to april? It worked out for them in april.

And an Easter opening for SUPERMAN is pretty obvious.

cause Marvel is on a ego-trip right now and wants to claim some victory by "forcing" BvS to move even though the smart decision is to move.

Again, Marvel claimed this date last summer. It's WB/DC that's trying to force Marvel to move, and they're looking pretty stupid. If they move, it's the third date change for the film and they're looking ridiculous. If they stay then they're still hurting the film's potential - it would probably out-open CA3, but it cuts its potential opening by quite a bit, and if it's a disappointment quality wise (especially in the face of CA3) then its legs will suffer even more. Staying here cuts down the potential box office for BvS by at least $50-100 million, and that's just domestically - if these two movies roll out around the same time internationally, CA3 will kick BvS's ass. It's just an all-around stupid move on WB's part.

If WB doesn't blink, CA3 will move. But I think I agree that BvS should move to March 25th because MY BIRTHDAY.

I would guess that Disney is simply waiting to see what kind of reception audiences give their first at Batman and Superman in trailers. It's kind of impossible to predict, in the same way The Avengers was. So I'd definitely bet money on Disney moving Cap to April if momentum really builds for Batman vs. Superman.

I also feel like WB is more willing to ride this out to the ends of the earth, though.

TDKR opened on my birthday. It is indeed a great thing to have a film you're excited for open on that day.

The Oogieloves opened on mine.

I'm sure WB will blink and put SvB in the studio's favorite July spot...

Something will move

4 Superhero films in the first 6 weeks of summer is ridiculous. I wouldn't be surprised if one goes to late July, another to Christmas.

There's another reason why Marvel will not blink:

With next year's AVENGERS 2 a Marvel movie has opened the summer season 9 years in a row (11 altogether). If they cede only once, other studios might follow and try to take away their spot as well.

So Marvel has to stay for its own longterm interest...

Of course they don't anymore after this opening and I'm not sure if cap 3 is not the first post A2 film or am I wrong? Either way folks will be anticipating CA3 now.

My opinion is that if Guardians and/or Ant-Man over performs, WB has to blink. Cap 3 will be coming off a very well received-entry, is theoretically the cheapest Marvel property to do, and Chris Evans has been very vocal about not going back to the Cap well.

I would think one of them would move by the date, but I don't see either one doing so. BVS has more potential, and marvel seems to think they can take the date with the succes of CA2 and good WOM. My guess is one of them moves up a week a couple months before release. If not, TDAT's biggest non-1 weekend record will finally fall. The new one would stand for a very long time.

If WB were smart, we would get a Batfleck picture some time this week to get everybody shutting the fuck up about CA2.

When 1 picture trumps the films opening weekend, that might have given Marvel a hint.

Studios aren't that stupid to actually to let this happen. keep in mind this is still TWO YEARS away. each side can talk all they want right now but by May 2016, the schedule will not look like this.

Marvel is just trying to see if they can get WB to move. The idea that WB would be afraid of CA3 is almost comical.

I still think Marvel has this spot and they should continue to hold that. The last set of Batman movies were successful and saw record breaking openings in July so I don't see why Warner could not go to that spot.

Devin at Badass Digest had a good analysis - in that even if B&S opens at #1 (which isn't even a guarantee now) Captain America is going is likely to siphon off tens of millions. When you're trying to launch a massive, multi-film series franchise - you can't have that happen.

Hell, I would think that WB would want to avoid the two going up against critics simultaneously alone.

At the same time, BVS would hurt CA3 as well. Both films get hurt by facing off against each other. One will blink at some point.

Captain America making 95 million with absolutely no competition outside of a biblical drama making 17 million a month before and after is a factor as well. Push comes to shove, people would still pick BVS over CA3. The curiosity factor alone vs. the 11th Marvel Universe film. I could still see BVS making 150 million and CA3 only 80 million (Mostly because everyone would see Batman first, then the next day see Captain America.)

But it's nice to fantasize. WB already has said there are a number of things that could change the date. It's their way of saving face when something does come up. They will move.
