 Re: Interstellar Domestic Predictions
The trailer is a teaser, it's solid though nothing spectacular. This alone obviously won't get enough buns in seats to even get past 250m, it will be up to the next full trailer to elevate the interest average.
That said I'm a fan of not showing too much in a trailer.

 Re: Interstellar Domestic Predictions
So far we haven't seen even one moneyshot. This is all just 1st act stuff. The next trailer will be a better indicator of how the film will do.
But it does seem to do solid character work before getting to the exciting stuff. Which is a good thing.

I'm completely sold now. $400m+ final.
Audiences are going to love this. I just feel it.

 Re: Interstellar Domestic Predictions
Trailer doesn't pop like Inception. Right now I'd say $60m/$260m, assuming reviews are ~90% on RT. That'd be a much bigger opening than Gravity sans 3-D.
Wonder if they're going to show this at any festivals. They will if it's good enough I reckon, because they will want the Oscar buzz started. Wouldn't be surprised by a secret screening at TIFF or Telluride.

 Re: Interstellar Domestic Predictions
Opening an original film is difficult. Inception screened almost a month early to build buzz. Gravity was at all 3 festivals (Venice, TIFF, and Telluride). If the film is good enough and finished, they'll screen it early for sure imho.

I'm interested to see how the final trailer is. This trailer still has a "teaser" vibe to it. Most of the trailer doesn't even take place in space or even show much of the cast outside of MM.
I think this trailer sells those already interseted in the film, which should be good enough for at least a low 50s opening. I'm assuming the late game marketing + strong reviews will push some more folks to give it a mid 60s opening.
But it seems doubtful that the marketing is going to be exciting enough for the mainstream that would make it a big event on OW. This will be all about the legs There is a lot of action in the script I read. Film will be extremely marketable. Paramount would really have to fuck up for this to open under 70 million.

 Re: Interstellar Domestic Predictions
Trailer is fine but nothing yet screams a huge opening or total. With Nolan's name I say this can do better close to $50m OW but right now I don't see much more.

 Re: Interstellar Domestic Predictions
From Comingsoon.net's poll: Quote: Which Holiday 2014 movie are you looking forward to the most?
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies 36.6% Interstellar 24.1% The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 11.7% Dumb and Dumber To 9.9% Big Hero 6 3.6% Exodus: Gods and Kings 3.0% Horrible Bosses 2 2.1% Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb 1.5% Into the Woods 1.2% Hot Tub Time Machine 2 1.0%
Total votes: 5727 Slightly surprising result. I know CS.net is full of fanboys, but Nolan has his fair share of those too and he's currently losing out to the final Hobbit movie. The box office will probably emulate this which means that what I've been saying all along will happen.

 Re: Interstellar Domestic Predictions
The Battle of the Five Armies is probably going to make $320m. Interstellar is going to make around $165m, and Mockinjay Part I will make its usual but slightly-less-as-it's-a-first-part-of-the-final-book-in-the-series $390m.

You make no sense at all. What is the point of you being on a box office forum if you refuse to learn anything about box office?

I know the rules. Doesn't mean I have to follow it when predicting. Are these predictions being shown to my future employers? Will they help me improve my career? Nope. So I post predictions that I enjoy to post. Predictions that I hope will come true. I love wild predictions. That's all there is to it. But these predictions above are not wild at all. They're so fairly safe that it calls into question your absurd comment. We'll see who's right in January

 Re: Interstellar Domestic Predictions
This is completely irrelevant to Interstellar, but 390 million would be a larger percent drop than the Twilight films usually experienced. I find it hard to believe that will happen.

 Re: Interstellar Domestic Predictions
The early buzz for this is promising. The hype should be HUGE come November once more reviews leak out, but I think a $70M+ opening is close to a lock with a possible total over $300M if mainstream audience react to it the same way.
This movie is going to play really well over the holidays including Christmas.

This could just be an utter geek flick. I can totally bypass mainstream viewers the way so many great movies have done in the past.

 Re: Interstellar Domestic Predictions
It's an original film. A $350m+ prediction is very, very bold. To do that, you're basically saying it's in Avatar or Titanic or Jurassic Park territory.
