I really don't believe TA had much effect on Thor 2. which then is disappointing and also have a hard time believing it. How can see ads for Thor 2 but not think of The Avengers?

I really never thought Thor 2 was going to do more than like 225 anyway. It will be interesting to see how the CB movies do next year. I am not sure if Captain America can do 200 or not. I think both DOFP and Spiderman will do over 200 and both have potential to do over 250. Who knows what to make of Guardians of the Galaxy.

I think Cap 2 benefits from having an excellent trailer. Better than the Thor 2 trailers by far. However, will the movie really be as good as the filmmakers claim? Marvel says they want to make it a "political thriller" but that completely goes against the way Marvel has been making their recent films (family friendly, lots of jokes, humor). The people they have hired to write and direct makes it look like they want to make another Thor 2 type movie than something greater. It benefits domestically from a pretty good release date, taking advantage of Easter and doesn't have muchcompetition until Spider-Man opens and cuts off its legs but overseas is a bigger problem because SM opens only two to three weeks after in many countries. Rio 2 will also be an international monsters that could be competitive to Cap 2 overseas

I think sequel to a well liked original movie mostly comes equal to the original's total or see a 5%-10% drop. We have had lots of examples of this, look at IM2 (yes it was not well liked) and The Incredible Hulk (yes the first one was not liked), but overall both Thor movies are just average experience so sequel was NOT supposed to outgross the original.
Thor 2 did and even with 10% increase I say there is a bump from TA, not HUGE but then again TA still has MUCH bigger appeal and many people still haven't read Thor.
