Post Re: Hunger Games Sellout Watch
this appears to be going onto a lot of screens.

All the theaters have it on 3,4,5 screens...

Have not seen that since Hp.

5 midnight sellouts at 10 theaters.

10 Friday night sellouts.

At my theater, no sellouts yet but Midnight is nearly sold out and 7:30 pm Friday is nearly sold out.

So for a non-sequel is the best performance I have seen...

It's so long, it needs the screens.

Sixth Midnight sellout update for NoVA/DC Metro/MD, as of 3:45PM EST

Image

Up to 24 sellouts now with 163 showtimes. Looks very solid so far, and I'll do one more update tonight. The last 24 hours is when I expect the midnight sales to really pick up.

Keep in mind that would be double the number of tickets sold with 84%.

My local Hollywood Theater added another showtime, now 3/5. And the nearby Carmike Cinema added another showtime, too, but is 1/4.

The Regal Theater near my hometown is 2/3.

Seventh Friday (non-midnight) sellout update for NoVA/DC Metro/MD, as of 7:45PM EST

Image

Up to 13 Friday sellouts now and 704 total screenings. Well ahead of what BD1 was at on the Thursday before (in terms of sellouts AND showings), and far ahead of what BD1 was at the Wednesday before. As I've been saying, Friday looks like its going to be huge.

For comparison, here's BD1's numbers from Thursday and Friday

Image

BD1 was at 7 sellouts and 270 showings. In the same theaters, THG is at 10 sellouts and 408 showings

I would like to stress a huge point, this movie is racking up huge presales for Friday and especially Saturday...

7 midnight sellouts at 10 theaters and all theaters adding a 2nd show as the first is nearly full.

9 Sellouts for Friday night...7 are like 98% sold so you can say more like 16 sellouts for Friday night
and many shows are very full...

I will do my theater...

The screen with reserved seating...
Friday:
12:50PM: 20% full
4:10PM: 60% full
7:30PM: 99% sold
10:45PM: 80% sold

Also huge demand on Saturday...
12:50PM: 40% full
The 4:10 pm show on Saturday is more full then the Friday one around 70% sold...
7:30 pm show: 75% sold
10:45pm : 30% sold.

Regal Union Square in NYC already has sellouts for 6:10, 6:40, 7:30, 8:00, 8:50, 9:20, 9:50, 10:40 on Friday. That's nuts.

Also, Gitesh Pandya tweeted today that all 14 midnight showings at AMC Kips Bay (also NYC) are sold out. Goodness.

The fourth midnight show at my Hollywood Theater just sold out. They haven't added anymore (yet), but they did go from 10 showtimes on Friday to 16 (an additional screen it seems) that includes an 11:00am and 11:45am.

The movie has big demand during the day as well especially on Saturday...

Looks to be hitting many demographics while twilight hit one demographic but with great intensity.

Older people coming during the day and the young crowd (guys and girls) during the nights mean a big opening.

did a proper look around...

7 midnight sellouts at 10 theaters and all theaters adding a 2nd show as the first is nearly full.

18 Sellouts for Friday night...6 are like 98% sold so you can say more like 24 sellouts for Friday night
and many shows are very full...

I think this could get around 100+ sellouts by the end of Friday...

Seventh Midnight sellout update for NoVA/DC Metro/MD, as of 11:05PM EST

Image

26 sellouts now and a few more showtimes added to take the total up to 166. This is about on par with BD1, but with far more showtimes, which would make estimating the actual number of tickets sold difficult, but again, it's right in BD1's ballpark through the same time frame.

Now I emphasized earlier that the last 24 hours are the ones to watch for the midnights, as BD1 sold out 54.5% of its midnights in this period. Will be interesting to see what happens over the next day.

imo this film is not going to get big midnight numbers.

This is going to more of like a traditional opener

Of course in a modern sense.

Not meaning it will get a 40 million Friday and then a 60 million Saturday and 40 million Sunday...
More like 60, 42, 29

No, under 25 million for midnights only means under 25 million for midnights. I'm sure Lionsgate wants this to make absolutely as much as possible as early as possible. If the film's legs are good, they'll be good, no matter what the weekend internal multiplier looks like.

Also The Hunger Games has sold out three of it's five midnight showings in little Prescott Valley, Arizona.

First midnight showings I'll be seeing since Harry Potter, and Tron before that.

As of right now, using Fandango and Movietickets.com,

Appleton/Green Bay - 8 midnight sellouts, 1 Friday evening sellout

out of curiosity, I checked the Chicago area as well.

21 midnight sellouts, 1 Friday sellout.
