Re: Sellouts and Crowd Reports Thread June 24th - July 4th
I see two sellouts for TF3 in IMAX 3D at the 9pm showings there having tonight. Interesting that the first sellouts I see are for the IMAX 3D and not the 2D showings although I expect those to pick up drastically by tonight.

No sellouts locally, but college is out so we shift to largely walk-up business for the summer.

Definitely don't see RS being closer, if accurate.

Re: Sellouts and Crowd Reports Thread June 24th - July 4th
I've seen IMAX 3D sellouts in my area. Nothing else yet, but many shows lined up. I'm sure this will perform similar to the last one and have late sellouts, but many.

Actually today I think some theaters did add some 9:00 2D of Transformers.

As of this posting the IMAX 3D showing (9pm & midnight) are sold out at the Regal theater I'm going to. But the regular 3D showings (9:15,9:30 & midnight) are not sold out and neither are any of the 2D midnight showings(12:01,12:05,12:15).

Not a SINGLE 3D showing is sold out for tonight at Regal Union Square in Manhattan. The first showing starts in less than an hour.

In line for the 9pm XD 3D showing; not that people yet, around 50 people. Nobody in the 9:30pm 3D line.

Now it's filling up reasonably well, half full in a big auditorium.

I don't know how it is everywhere else, but 2D and IMAX 3D both appear to be doing really well for Transformers around here (multiple midnight sellouts). Straight up 3D not so much.

Here in Houston the IMAX 3D showings have pretty much all sold out, but there are only two theatres here that have them. As for the 2D midnight showings almost all of them are sold out. Overall it's looks like it's doing pretty damn solid here.

One thing I noted is TF3 is having way lower number of midnights than TF2. So I dont think this will be even close to TF2. Plus 3d is not helping at all.

TF3 did pretty solid in Canada.
The shows were spread out over 3.5 hours so it really diluted things in comparison to TF2.
However most of the business was walk in.
I would say around 6+ million previews imo.

Re: Sellouts and Crowd Reports Thread June 24th - July 4th
Just came back from the 9pm Liemax showing...
Firstly, I have to say in all my many, many years of going to the movies, this is the first time that I came "this close" to getting into a fist fight! Some jerk freaked out saying my friend kicked his chair, and started swearing and throwing a fit, and then started saying "let's stop arguing and start throwing some punches..." I could tell by the fact he was balding that he has way too much testosterone... anyways, the whole theatre was like WTF.... just thought it'd be an interesting lead off....
Now for the crowd report. The 9pm was sold out in a 300 seater. Midnight looked about sold out too when I was leaving...
The movie. It was kind of neither here nor there. The action is great, the 3d is passable, but not anything as great as Avatar so I recommend you just got for 2D, the sound was amazing, it was far too long and Rosie's performance isn't nearly as bad as they say. Patrick Dempsey's acting was on par, and yet no one mentioned a thing about that.... and finally Megan Fox is certainly not missed, not one bit....
So, overall, I give this a B-. However, the crowd reaction did seem to be mostly positve so maybe it will have an ok box office performance. I could see a total anywhere from 250 - 400 million to be honest. There are reasons as to why it could gross either... I think it really just depends if Paramount can get butts in seats.
Oh, and the Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol trailer surprisingly rocked!!!

I really think (and hope) that this and Harry Potter will be the death of 3D in terms or using it for regular blockbusters. It should be reserved for a couple of movies a year that really are worth the price of 3D.

10:00pm Transformers 3D. It was only like half full in a 200-seater. I didn't get to see how well the other showings were doing (9:00, 11:00, and two 12:01's), but this seemed disappointing.
