I have no trouble believing in MTC's CARS 2 forecast...

Maybe I'll end up with eggs on my face but I think MTC is trying to compensate here for Panda 2 doing less than expected.

MTC hasn't been hot lately, but the tracking disparity is disconcerting. Still have to respect the theorem.

 Re: June 24 - 26 Predictions
MTC had Toy Story 3 at 108. Hardly a huge underprediction.

UP: 62m MTC - 68m actual
WALL-E: 70m MTC - 63m actual
RATATOUILLE: 47m MTC - 47m actual

 Re: June 24 - 26 Predictions
Because i think it's still a valid comparison. Selling many DVDs doesn't make the sequel a guaranteed smash hit.

How about some valid comparisons? Shrek 3 - 11.4m Kung Fu Panda - 9.1m

 Re: June 24 - 26 Predictions
A better comparison for Cars would be other animated films or hell even the first Pirates movie. Not the third one.
And yes, DVD sales do not guarantee a smash hit. But if 15 million+ people are willing to pay 20 dollars just to own a copy of the movie, those same people will be more motivated to see the sequel.

 Re: June 24 - 26 Predictions
Does kinda have the same feel as Panda 2. Families are Pixar's main audience, but there is no doubt it has built up a huge internet following and the hype is not there for this one. Opening to less than Up would not be all that surprising. Going with $65M as final prediction.

 Re: June 24 - 26 Predictions
At the moment, Cars 2's poll isn't that encouraging either (IN COMPARISON TO OTHER PIXAR MOVIES AHHH DON'T FREAK OUT PEOPLE). It's at 31.2%.
Comparisons: Cars - 34.6% Up - 41.9% Wall-E - 48.4% Toy Story 3 - 54.5%

 Re: June 24 - 26 Predictions
I fully expect online signs to not be inflated as they typically are for Pixar releases. There's a lot of hate for the original film on the internet community (IMDB is already at 6.9, for instance)
