This should have opened much bigger in other countries as well. It seems that France was only exceptional opening for it.

I dunno what it should have. Maybe some people overstated the popularity of Tintin overseas. It is only really big in french speaking territories, as we can see now. Maybe in some emerging markets it can score big...

That's quite an exaggeration.

It's the French language version of an American film about a French-speaking Belgian character.

Correction:

It was "only" 2,248,976 admissions in France =

- 13th biggest opening weekend of all-time
- 2nd biggest opening weekend of all-time by a non-sequel
- 7th biggest opening weekend of all-time by a non-French film

If only it'd do as good in other countries. Germany, again, is a very negative example...

With a bit of luck TINTIN could make $100 mln in France alone.

Post Re: The Adventures Of Tintin (INTL.)
From BOM :

Quote:
Steven Spielberg's Tintin opened to $56.1 million in 19 territories, though over half of that came from France and the United Kingdom. In France, where the Tintin comic books are essential reading for children, the movie earned a whopping $21.9 million through its first five days. That's the top opening ever for a non-sequel in France. Its $10.4 million debut in the U.K. wasn't as astonishing, though it's still a very strong start there. It also impressed in author Herge's native Belgium, where it earned $2.2 million.

Across other major European markets, the movie tallied solid numbers in Spain ($6.6 million) and Germany ($4.6 million) though it was unremarkable in Italy ($1.3 million). Next weekend, Tintin expands in to Russia and a handful of smaller Eastern European and Middle Eastern territories.

Judging by Thursday's numbers TINTIN will drop between 30 % to 40 % here in Germany...

Grosses in France are superb, shame about the other major European countries. Germany is just dreadful, I expected much more. At least it's doing well in the gallic and scandinavian countries.

TinTin grossed between $700-750k in first day in Russia. Might gross about $5 mln this weekend.

Compared to Puss that's paltry. China is one of the last international markets where it may do some big numbers. The source material is popular there. Allegedly...

Based on those numbers i think we shouldn't expect more than something like $350m OS, which is fine but not as big as some expected.

Abysmal for a large market such as Russia, looks like the source material is not that strong over there.

There goes chances of $400m overseas I think unless China truly surprises with a $100m+ gross or something.

Not strong at all - in fact, it's long forgotten. Comics have never been published, but the animated series was run in mid 90s.

Exhibitor Relations
Spielberg's THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN has already topped $125 mil overseas, as it rang up another $40.8 mil this weekend.

Tintin added an estimated $40.8 million from 45 territories, which brings its two-week total to $125.3 million. The Steven Spielberg animated adventure's best debut came from a solid second place start in Russia ($5.9 million). However, its top market was once again France, where it plummeted 64 percent to $7.8 million after its enormous opening last weekend. It held extremely well in Spain (easing 12 percent to $6.15 million), and it also added $3.6 million in Germany and $3.3 million in the United Kingdom. Finally, the movie was up 25 percent to $2.5 million in author Herge's native Belgium. Next weekend, Tintin is set to expand in to a handful of smaller Asian markets like India, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

What a huge drop in France. I'm sure Puss is hurting Tintin in Russia. Spain is doing really good and it's massive in Belgium.

I wonder if the Hobbit can beat Tin Tin in Belgium next year'.

TinTin is setting a ferocious pace.

Some more numbers:

Quote:
The Adventures Of Tintin had little trouble holding on to pole position and continued to deliver powerful results in the second weekend. The film was active on 6,811 screens in 45 markets, mostly through Sony Pictures Releasing International. France remained the key and generated $7.8m from 914 for a dazzling $39.8m, while Spain produced $6.2m from 819 for an excellent $18.1m.

Tintin opened in Russia in second place on $5.9m from 900 and added $3.6m in Germany from 878 for $10.5m, and surged to $6.1m in Belgium following a $2.5m haul from 169 in comic book creator Herge’s native Belgium.

The sole release so far through Paramount is also a success: the film has amassed a $16.4m running total in the UK after grossing $3.3m from 517.

In other highlights through Sony, Tintin stands at $6.9m in Sweden, $4.1m in Italy, $3.6m in Denmark, $2.9m in Switzerland and $2.2m in Holland. The number one Finnish debut generated a mighty $520,000 from 100 screens.

It is out in 45 markets, I kinda expected much more. I expect it to do well in rest of the markets as well but animation competition ahead it too big for it and the opening is just on par with standard animation movies nothing groundbreaking. It will be a solid financial success no doubt about it but it will wind up with $500m WW total, which will be good not great.

$233.7m OS total.

Regardless of what you say it is a disappointing number specially when it is already out for a month and is about to finish its run in most of the OS markets. In animation comparison even Rio did $341m in OS total (I am not considering Cars 2 and KFP2 at all for obvious reasons), overall even from animation standards this did just average with a big breakout in France.
