 Re: Tuesday Numbers (Inception Only)
Since I think INCEPTION will end up being a stronger weekend film anyway (as opposed to stronger weekdays), anything that keeps its weekdays higher is a good thing, regardless of whether it's simply WOM, the market over-performing right now, or a combination of the two.

Though this is more than impressive and Inception is still working on higher scales EVERYTHING else increased today which means this more towards Tuesday being a good day rather than the legs. Again this is more than impressive for this movie and it was AWESOME before all the other numbers came out, now it is great but not WOW number. Uh, it's a wow number regardless.

It's pretty much performing exactly opposite to how a lot of people thought it would in the industry. At the end of the day, older audiences like traditional storytelling. Younger audiences are a little more willing to, as Cobb says to Saito at the beginning, "Completely let me (Nolan) in." The kids will eat anything Nolan feeds 'em... That's why you see such eagerness in these daily threads for decent BO performance - - it's an illusory attempt to justify their own support of the film - - if lots of people buy tickets, it must be good, right? Or, perhaps, if it's good hopefully a lot of people will buy tickets? I don't see many people on this site defend Transformers 2 Bradley, yet that sold more than Inception could hope to.

 Re: Tuesday Numbers (Inception Only)
As my wise counsel 'Gertie sagely told me the other day, fuck CinemScores, and Dave Poland of Hot Blog stated basically the same thing. I don't think they do a good job of filtering out a normal crowd from a fanatic crowd. As I type, this Tyson's just sold out their 5:30 show. I finally got my weekend actuals wrap-up, so if anyone is interested here it is. http://districtvibe.com/index.php?optio ... &Itemid=60It is Inception-centric, so no Knight & Day or anything else analysis yet. I will add some of them through the week. It is more like my TDK, Passion, Return of the King, etc. tracking pieces I have done in the past. So if you found those vague and boring, I can't help you. If you liked them, you should like this. I will be doing one every day for awhile if you want to obsess over Inception with me. I didn't do a Tuesday mdana power number (Barry has to ok the piece before it gets posted), but if I had it would have been $9.1-8.9m. It seemed like a valid prediction last night, but so tame and conservative now. Comparing it to Signs was just jumping off point for other films as I wrap my head around this run. I am starting to think a multiplier of 5-6 are possible, but I am still debating on if it will actually happen.

 Re: Tuesday Numbers (Inception Only)
I'm sticking with my sub 25% drop for this weekend.
Nice numbers so far.

PM me a message about why you think Inception should drop less than 25% this weekend.

 Re: Tuesday Numbers (Inception Only)
25% is veryyyyyy small drop. That would be absurdly good; 47 million or more.

 Re: Tuesday Numbers (Inception Only)
Inception: I saw three sellouts from Regal Union Square for 7:30pm, 8:30pm, and 9:50pm. The 8:30pm was reported by kenspy at least five hours ago.
I hope we'll see a strong Wednesday for it.

 Re: Tuesday Numbers (Inception Only)
This is the logic i sent to BL, wont be easy but i can see it happening;
My thinking, other than subjectively anticipating a great hold is this,
Using Sixth Sense and Wedding Crashers as my case studies;
Expectation is 70% Friday increase (TDK had a 60% increase, SS and WC had 78% and 74% increases respectively) Expected Friday gross : 8.72m 2nd weekend Multiplier : 3.2 (lower than SS, WC, TDK) 2nd weekend gross - $47.4m
2nd weekend decrease - 24.4%
I'm even being a little conservative as Salt is strong competition.

Magception wrote: Uh, your numbers are off Gez.
TDK Friday increase was 41%. WC was 63%. SS is correct. Ah ok, yes my bad. Even so, a 60-65% increase and a slightly better wknd multiplier would get it under 25%. Or at worst 25-30% drop which would be amazing.

 Re: Tuesday Numbers (Inception Only)
Georgetown and Tysons added one show more than yesterday. Sellouts kept pace with yesterday. I wonder if there is any possibility for a flat Wednesday or drop like today?

I see couple of 11PM sellouts at NYC. I definitely dont see it drop in double digits today.

bl1222 wrote: mdana, does adding a show mean there was more demand? In this case I think so. At many theaters it has 1-2 more shows on Thursday, but that is due to later hours and Salt midnights. Here it is the only movie that gets another show and some movie lost a showing, although I can't always locate the exact movie that lost a show. Or maybe it is the case where some short 90min movie ends, and they can squeeze an 11:00 or 10:45 showing of Inception,since it merits the screen. It might be scheduled in due to potential that is being met. If it is not met, the last show is at 10:00 or 9:30 for Inception, and they can send the employees home an hour earlier or whatever.

And flat or slight increase would cause BJ to explode. Except, I don't think the rest of the top ten will increase as much Wednesday tend sto drop hard compared to Tues, at least it did last year. So, it would be beyond great.
