 Re: Alice in Wonderland (INTL.)
Alice is crushing Charlie with ease everywhere. I'm interested to see how it performs in Japan. Depp is more popular now than he was in 2005 after Pirates all experienced big increases (P1 - $60m, P2 - $82m, P3 - $102m), Charlie grossed over $40m 5 years ago in medium release, and Sweeney Todd was No.1 for two weeks grossing $20m itself.
_________________Japan Box Office “Gods are great ... but the heart is greater. For it is from our hearts they come, and to our hearts they shall return.” “We were like gods at the dawning of the world, & our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other.” “There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.” “You have to pretend you get an endgame. You have to carry on like you will; otherwise, you can't carry on at all.” "Paper is dead without words / Ink idle without a poem / All the world dead without stories."

 Re: Alice in Wonderland (INTL.)
UNITED KINGDOM - Weekend 4
Tracking below Charlie and the Chocolate in US$ but ahead in local pounds. Charlie finished with close to $66m and 37.3m pounds, Alice at this rate shouldn't have any problems beating the local pounds but US$ seems a bit tough to crack.

Quite a strong performance here in Venezuala and displaying some pretty good legs. It's going to be Depp's largest grossing movie here.

UKRAINE - Weekend 4
The opening was amongst the Top 5 largest of all-time in US$ and Depp's 2nd largest behind Pirates 3. It dropped massively in it's 2nd week and is now tracking behind Love In The Big City 2 as 2010's largest movie so far.

RUSSIA CIS - Weekend 4
Huge hold in weekend 2 even against the opening of How To Train Your Dragon. That movie had a $7.3m opening (not quite as large as Madagascar 2 or Kung Fu Panda but a recovery from last year's Monsters vs. Aliens for Dreamworks). Alice last week registered the 7th largest opneing weekend of all-time.
If it continues at this rate it will have a shot at the $42-45m region. This market continues to be a playground for massive grosses each year.

Re: Alice in Wonderland (INTL.) - $422,300,000
After five weeks it stands at $422.3 million overseas and still has Japan, Brazil and Spain ahead! Worldwide it's at $732 million.
It'll pass $500 million overseas from holdovers alone. With three big markets left, though, we will easily see a $900+ million worldwide total. And hwo knows, it if breaks out big time in Japan we migth actually see it approach $1 billion. No kidding.

Oh and in Germany it is looking at a slught (1-2%) increase this weekend with around 200,000 admissions which should put its total at over 2.4 million admissions.

What was its weekend? I think the vast majority comes from France and China atm. If that's correct i don't see $500m from holdovers alone.

I agree Lecter, this one is turning out to be another Ice Age 3 and 2012 type gross overseas. The only difference this time is that it has the domestic strength as well, raising it to HP and LOTRs territory. $600m looks to to be the low end now for a WW gross at least as good as the past two Harry Potter flicks around the $930m+ mark.

Re: Alice in Wonderland (INTL.) - $422,300,000
I feel as if this film is just an indicator of what this year will look like.
I think Harry Potter 7 Pt. 1 is heavily primed for a massive worldwide gross. It could make it to #3 worldwide, and perhaps $400 m domestically and perhaps $800-850 m overseas. It could be headed for $1.2 billion + imo.
Then there's Iron Man 2, Shrek 4, Toy Story 3, and Eclipse and surprise films in store.
I wouldn't be surprised if even with a $900 m + worldwide gross, Alice manages to slip out of the top 3 for the year.

Re: Alice in Wonderland (INTL.) - $465,100,000
According to BOM the OS gross is $461.5 million now. That with no new openings. I'm pretty certain now that $600+ million overseas is happening unless it completely falls on its face in Japan or Spain...

Re: Alice in Wonderland (INTL.) - $461,500,000
Actually we could have five.
Alice should make it. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I will definitely make it (and might break $1 billion). Toy Story 3 will most likely make it. The last made close to $500 million and after ten years of inflation + 3D + Pixar being as acclaimed as never before this should be huge everywhere.
Shrek Forever After might make it thanks to 3D. The last barely missed $800 million, the 3D factor might just push this one over $900 million.
Iron Man 2 is iffy of course, but if it breaks out BIG time in the US (like $450+ million), it could happen. Iron Man made $266 million overseas which is terrific for a comic book adaptation that is not Spider-Man. The sequel is bound to increase. A $450 million domestic gross + same OS increase as X2 had over X1 means ~$820 million overseas. So while not too likely, I would not rule it out.

Re: Alice in Wonderland (INTL.) - $461,500,000
Japan is looking at a HUGE opening as well, could go up to $16 million according to Corpse's thread. That means that we'll see at least $60 million from Japan (probably more) and likely $35+ million from Spain. $900+ million worldwide is a lock and $1 billion is still somewhat possible.

Re: Alice in Wonderland (INTL.) - Could it hit $1 billion WW?!
Okay, time to raise this question again...I know it might seem unlikely and all, but...
Alice in Wonderland is currently at $827.5 million worldwide after big openings in Japan and Spain this wekend. In Japan it'll likely have a long and healthy run and in most holdovers it still has plenty of life left. In other words - $900+ million is guaranteed.
The question is...how close will it get to $1 billion? I still think it will miss, but it's interesting how close it will get. Could it top Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ($974.7 million) and become the 6th-biggest movie ever worldwide? At least the Top 10 worldwide of all-time seems very likely at the moment.

It'll still have Brazil to open in won't it? It should be able to reach $1b.

Well we all marveled at IA3's run as a freak of nature, so I think it's only natural to be a bit taken aback at a non-franchise film playing at this level. It's not like anyone was predicting $1B for this.

It's not like anyone was predicting $1B for this. With 3D, I could see the entire top 10 worldwide be $1 billion films within a year and a half (ex. Shrek, Eclipse, HP 7 Pt. 1, Toy Story 3, etc all set for huge grosses, though may miss out on $1 billion). Here's what Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would have done adjusted to 2010 dollars and with 3D: $424.8 m overseas $326.6 m domestic $751.4 m worldwide Not $1 billion, so Alice clearly overperformed. But 3D/inflation is overinflating a lot of runs for sure.
