Funny thing here in Germany: Not Dreamworks, not Disney, not Pixar but 20th Century Fox holds both animation opening records: Biggest CGI opener is IA2, biggest traditional animation opener is THE SIMPSONS... And also the same reason Dreamworks is bigger in Europe, South America and Asia than Pixar. In Germany, Pixar is certainly much bigger than Dreamworks. Finding Nemo is still the 2nd-biggest CG-animated film of all-time here with over 8 milion admissions. Ratatouille was more successful here than any Shrek film. Germany was one of the few terrirotires where WALL-E actually did beat Kung-Fu Panda. And Monsters Vs. Aliens pretty much flopped here, considering its potential. (didn't even get close to 1 million admissions).

The same story as with Hui Buh and Lissi...Bully isn't gonna come close to those heights again. If anything makes it this far, it'll be something we simply can't predict beforehand. Something like Keinohrhasen (I mean who saw 6+ million for it?!).

Re: Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (INTL.)
Well, the updated Overseas take is even higher:
$151,697,196
That's damn HUGE! And since unlike Transformers 2 it won't have much competition in its second overseas weekend, it should be at $300+ million OS by the end of the next weekend.

Re: Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (INTL.)
ICE AGE 3 is a MONSTER in Russia and CIS. Now biggest opening weekends (4 days, without Ukraine) are: 1. The Very Best Film $16,484,460 2. Ice Age 3 $16,431,218 3. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa $16,361,057
4-day opening weekends in rubles: 1. Ice Age 3 512.5 m (damn, first film ever to break 500 million! Only 1,5 years after the first film to break 400 million) 2. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa 441.8 m 3. The Very Best Film 403.9 m
And IA3 now officially beats the total of IA2 in its first 5 days ($20.9 m Vs 19.2).
I wish we had last Summer's dollar, the numbers will be even more impressive (like $22 m instead of 16.4)
BTW, Transformers 2 was totally crashed (-83.7%)
$40 million total is a lock at this point - with HP opening in its 3rd w/e it has more than enough room. There's a potential for $45 million. I wonder if it could play with $50 million thanks to 3D... I'd really love to see it dethroning Irony of Fate 2.

Re: Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (INTL.) - $151,697,196
In Germany it got 1,688,891 admissions opening weekend (5-day) which already makes it the 8th-biggest film of the year here! By the end of the next weekend, it'll be #2 (Angels & Demons is currently #1, but will fall to Ice Age 3 in 3-4 weeks).
Its 4-day opening (the normal opening weekend here) is the biggest since Madagascar 2 and the 28th-biggest of all-time in admissions (27th is the first Ice Age, by the way). With weather starting to worsen somewhat and the summer break starting in most parts of Germany this is looking good for 6+ million admissions in total.

France opening week:
2,403,734 admissions in 783 IA3* 2,171,810 admissions in 858 IA2 617.707 admissions in 651 IA1
*that's the biggest animation opening of all-time - even more amazing: IA3 opened on a Friday instead of the usual Wednesday so the opening week consists of only 5 days!!!

This is mind boggling. I've seen it. It's not as bad as Ice Age 2 but its not really that epic or special.

To be fair, though, it did have two days less, it seems. With an additional two days, it probably would have cracked the Top 15.

The final Russian number was $20,886,744 according to BOM, by the way. That's fucking astounding.

International markets continue to be phenomenal for "Dawn of the Dinosaurs," however. It earned $98 million overseas this weekend, bringing its foreign total to a hefty $327.1 million. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/enterta ... ox_office/

Okay, this is truly AMAZING. I think my original $510 million prediction, while not easy to achieve, is still in play. I mean by the end of the next weekend it'll cruise past $400 million!
Is there a list for the biggest 2nd overseas weekend for simultaneous (or almost simultaneous) overseas releases?

Re: Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (INTL.) - $151,697,196
Ice Age could do $500 m overseas. I still think March was such a huge wasted opportunity for it though. A $190 m domestic/$475 m overseas total from a July release, faces summer competition from Transformers and HP6. In March, it could have perhaps done $230 m/$560 m. So going from a $665 m worldwide tally to $790 m (#23 of all time ww). Outstanding international run though!

Ehh, with March it wouldn't have done $560 million OS...it would have faced less competition, but the school vacations are longer in the summer and Ice Age 3 benefits from that greatly.
In Germany, it managed to pretty much stay flat in its second weekend! (looking at the 7th-biggest 2nd weekend of all-time!). Damn.

Wow, early signs pointed towards a gross less than that of IA2, in North America as well as overseas, to me anyway, but now it actually seems as if it could match it, maybe even surpass it.

In North America, yes, but overseas it always seemed fine. I mean a $150 million opening weekend OS is pretty terrific.
