Certainly not this weekend.

It's been a very hot weekend and today is the hottest of the year!

Anyway, the UK gross is great.

Opened to waayy more than Star Trek, Wolverine, Night at Museum and Angels and Demons.

Wrong matchups though... ;)

why is BOM's foreign page for Transformers 2 showing $6,681,113 for Japan and $15,571,191 for UK?

The £8.35M UK gross is $13,725,392.

and the Japan weekend chart shows $5,400,000.

Is it maybe including a Monday gross already?

Yeah, you need to look at the individual charts per category. :pinch:

Australia's first day will be a bit underwhelming because of State of Origin.

The reports from the first day indicate another record-breaking performance in China, just like the original.

It should break 300m yuan total, or $44m. The initial WOM seems to be at least decent.

In Germany, if the weather stays the way it is now, it'll suffer. It's just perfect outside weather right now...

Nah, the first one opened to perfect summer weather and proofed that it is somewhat weather proof, plus the forecast is mixed and right now the weather is horrible in Southern Germany...

Weather proof or not, I felt the first one performed way behind its potential. I mean 1.5 million admissions in Germany is really really not that much for a film like this. Can't remember any other $300+ million US grosser to perform this poorly except for The Passion of the Christ.

Sure, but we we're talking opening weekend and TF1's opening weekend during perfect summer weather with 595,859 admissions was much better than WOLVERINE (427,912), STAR TREK (421,593) and a bit better than T4 (576,216)...

TF2 I don't think will do well in Europe regardless of weather.
It's just not the type of movie that most Europeans would see is it?
TF was proof of that.
As before SEQUELS and FANTASY do extremely well. Everything else depends.
And as I state that, TF2 is of course a sequel so it should do better but not gangbusters in Europe compared to Asia I think.

Not that any of those were big blockbuster openings, though...

The first record in China is down: midnight gross, about 50% higher than what Red Cliff had and 80% higher than the first Transformer.

Red Cliff was the best Chinese "war, epic" film I have ever seen.

The quality was amazing and really captures the feel and look of that time really well.

Plus the characters were great, especially the wise strategist, Zhuge Liang. He was the best character hands down..

Red cliff got 46 million in China, interesting it got 52 million in Japan...

Lets see what TF2 does in China...

With current exchange rate (6.8 yuan per dollar), $50m is very much within reach.

Do sequels have the similar legs. I would think with more upfront rush there will be some front loading (like over here).

Yeah, but it appears it follows the general rule

That it will open so large, that even with large drops it will get a gigantic number in the end.

Good news, though doesn't Curse of the Golden Flower still hold the opening weekend record?

Sorry don't have my charts on me at the momment.

China and Korea is where it's at folks..

I actually haven't seen Red Cliff yet, dying to though.......those two sets of movies did really well in both China and Japan.

In fact, Red Cliff 2 is the 2nd highest grosser of the year so far behind Rookies.

If I remember it right, Transformers just edged out COTGF for the opening week, but it had an extra day, so COTGF had the better weekend number.

From BOM, a poster from Korea

TF2 jumps 51% over TF1 in South Korea opening day.

TR2 OD - 468,880 Tickets (Wednesday)
TR1 OD - 310,289 Tickets (Thursday)

This is big considering TF1 scored 51 million here. Looks like at worst we will see a repeat run.

It has set its sight squarely on Titanic's record in term of local currency. Titanic grossed 360m yuan, which at the time "only" translated to $44m. The opening day seems to indicate TF2 has a shot at 400m yuan, which in the current rate will translate to $58m. We'll see.
