If POTC 2 takes this weekend, it will be the first movie since T2 that took four weekends in July.

I read a report on another movie board; the person saw Miami Vice and there were quite a few walk outs during the film. I expected it to be bad, just not THAT bad.

People make stuff like that up many times.

The Digital Video and Extreme Violence is going to send some people out the doors.

This isnt Sin City, the violence was there, but very little. Theres basically two scenes with violence, people going to see a R rated what was suppose to be but wasnt action flick should expect atleast a bit of harsh violence. The digital video at times was downright awful though, I never remember Collateral looking THAT grainy, but again sometimes it looked quite fantastic.

Hmmm, looks mediocre for all three films, but Vice being the less mediocre of the bunch.

Not sure, if you go by that Miami Vice should be #1 on Friday. I think it will be close probably MV around 20-22 and Pirates between 19-21.

Two crowd reports from way earlier today...

MIAMI VICE
11:20AM at Crown Annapolis Mall 11
10% Full (Approx. 350-seat theatre)

Trailers: The Black Dahlia, Children Of Men, The Departed, Gridiron Gang, and Jet Li's Fearless.

Reaction: Not much of one. It was a small AM crowd consisting mainly of older (40+) patrons. Not exactly a rowdy bunch!

***

SCOOP
3:10PM at Crown Annapolis Harbour 9
50% Full (Approx. 150-seat theatre)

Trailers: Catch A Fire, Hollywoodland, The Illusionist, The Science Of Sleep, and The U.S. Vs. John Lennon.

Reaction: Tons of laughs! The crowd, again, mainly consisted of older couples, not exactly surprising it's a Woody Allen movie. They all seemed to get a kick out of it, though. Laughing was almost non-stop.

I personally believe both are among 2006's best films (thus far). :)

Miami Vice

4:05 pm

50% full- 400 seater

OC Kaleidoscope theater

Trailers-

Borat- Looks hilarious

Deja Vu- I really want to see this

Some Josh Hartnett movie- Looks alright

Some Jason Statham movie- Looks ok

Movie= FANTASTIC

I really enjoyed this film. I am half-Cuban, so the flashy Miami lifestyle is close to my heart. This movie was well directed, somewhat well acted, and it had a decent storyline. The action scenes were fast and well played out. Mann really is a good director. I hope that this movie makes at least $100 million in the US. It really deserves it. I agree with the fact that it was too long, and I was upset to see no boatrace. Other than that, I highly recommend it.

Miami Vice - 7/28/06
7:00pm showing
90% full (250-seat auditorium)

TRAILERS
Casino Royale (lots of talk)
All the King's Men (some talk)
Employee of the Month (laughs)
The Children of Men (talk)

Excellent film. Acting was very good, the action was great, and it looked beautiful. My only complaints were that some parts went by very slow and Jamie Foxx didn't get enough screen time (he was excellent when he was on, IMO).

Sellouts tonight:
John Tucker Must Die - 6:50 I 9:00
Miami Vice - 8:30 I 10:00

The theater was actually quite busy tonight with folks going to Vice, Tucker, and Pirates. I had a really good feeling about JTMD and it looks like it won't disappoint.

People walked out of my MIAMI VICE showing :P I could even describe them. A couple that was in their 40s, a single man and two guys who looked about college-age all left my screening.

Saw an 8:20 showing of Lady in the Water. Probably 65% full in a 250-seater.

I had a feeling that I'd love it, but I most definitely did not. Big problems. I did like it, though.

Among Holdovers.

Pirates - It sold out the 8:35 (135 seater), and the 9:45 (160 seater). It did however, drop 46% from last Friday. I expect it to better on Saturday.

Lady in the Water - The peak show did only 98 people. It dropped 57% here.

Monster House - The peak show hit only 56 people. It dropped an alarming 71% at this theater.

Clerks II - The 10:00 and 10:40 shows got 80% full in the 95 seater. It dropped 62% from last Friday here.

My Super Ex-Girlfriend - The peak show hit 80 people. It nosedived 56% here.

Little Man - It sold out the 7:25 (95 seater), the 8:20 (160 seater), and the 10:05 (95 seater). It dropped 52% from last Friday, but that was because of the 1 screen lost.

You Me and Dupree - It sold ou tthe 8:30 (95 seater), the 9:30 (90 seater), and the 11:15 (95 people). It dropped 59% from last Friday, but that's because it lost 1 full screen.

Superman - It sold out the 9:10 (95 seater). It dropped 51% from last Friday.

Devil Wears Prada - The peak show hit 62 people, the first time no sold out shows on a Friday. Though it dropped only 25% from last Friday.

Cars - The three showtimes did 74 people, only 25% from last Friday.

Click - It sold Out the 8:15 (95 seater). It last only 24% of it Friday audience.

Scanner Darkly - The 3 showtimes did 52 people, more than half less than last week.

Tokyo Drift - The 3 showtimes did 58 people combined (tick tock).

Nacho Libre - The 3 showtimes did 35 people combined (tick tock).

All in all, it was a solid, but not Spectacular Friday, though it did slightly better than last Friday.

Miami Vice - $20,300
John Tucker Must Die - $19,100
Pirates - $6,500
Ant Bully - $3,400
Scoop - $1,100

Pirates down 46%, hmm last week it was 44% but last week Pirates had weaker competition it seems. Tomorrow Pirates will probably go up big time, too :)

My derby is looking EXCELLENT so far!

Anyways, Miami Vice sucked horribly.

I almost walked out, but I kept hoping it would get better.

It was just incredibly slow, the parts that should've been exciting weren't, there was no character developement at all, someone said it best earlier...it was like they were sleepwalking through their roles.

The movie reminded me of Open Range (although Open Range was actually a good movie), it was incredibly slow and dull until the last 15 minutes when you really get what you came to see the movie for.

There were groans and general jittery-ness in my theater throughout the movie. After half the movie got through people started to just chat with their fellow viewers.

This was probably the biggest dissapointment of the year for me.

Here are some sell-outs of Miami Vice, John Tucker Must Die, and Little Miss Sunshine from Fandango last night:

Miami Vice-

AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 (NYC)- 8:00
AMC Loews E-Walk (NYC)- 8:00, 9:30
Regal Union Square Stadium 14 (NYC)- 7:20, 10:30
UA Sheepshead Bay Stadium 14 (Brooklyn)- 8:00
Carmike 16 (Allentown, PA)- 8:10
Regal Gallery Place Stadium 14 (Washington, DC)- 7:20
Regal South Beach Cinema 18 (Miami Beach, FL)- 7:45

John Tucker Must Die-

Carmike 16 (Allentown, PA)- 7:30

Little Miss Sunshine-

Regal Union Square Stadium 14 (NYC)- 4:50, 5:40, 7:25, 8:10, 9:55 (YAY!)

Judging by the crowd reports and Yahoo reviews, I think we should be seeing anywhere from $6.5-7.5 million for Miami Vice, $5-6 million for John Tucker Must Die, and a very nice gross for Little Miss Sunshine, in the few theaters that it has opened in.

I saw Pirates Friday night at the Grand Lake Theatre in Oakland, CA. I wandered into the 7pm show for LITW and there were EIGHT people in it! This is FRIDAY night people! :hahaha:

Pirates had about 130 people. Monster House seemed to be doing well, about 50 people in the 6:00pm show, and DWP was selling LOTS of tickets for the 7:15pm show!
