Akeelah and Sentinel both held up well given the theater loss. I'd project $2.0m for the former and $1.5m for the latter.

That's a lower than expected drop for Hoot as well.

Poseidon fell flat, as expected. Warners is going to have to hope for some big international numbers from that one.
Mission Impossible held up fairly well, all things considered. It may be able to hit at least $135-140M.
Lindsay Lohan's drawing power has faded. A lame premise and almost no appeal to males probably didn't help.

It should be noted how well RV has held up so far. It's only down 21% from last Friday, and will probably have an even better drop for the weekend itself. It has totally monopolized the family market, which bodes well for Over the Hedge.

A good number for Goal. I thought 1m was the ceiling for it. Bend it Like Beckham had a $1809 PTA from 1002 theaters with better reviews and more starpower.
WB is in deep trouble this year. With Poseidon bombing, and Superman Returns and Lady in the Water probably underperforming, Happy Feet looks like their only film with break-out potential. I'm currently thinking POTC2 will be bigger than their whole summer line-up (Poseidon + SR + LitW + and The Lake House). Maybe that will teach them how to properly market their films.

Wasn't that after it had already been out in limited release for four or five months?

*checks info again*
you're right. It went wide in August after opening limited in March. And it had already made 81% of its gross by that time. Well that makes sense
Then, the Goal number is not that good

Also, didn't Bend It Like Beckham only have star power after the film was a success? Knightly, Parminder, and that Elvis dude were nobodies then...

Well, at least I knew Knightley from Episode 1, and The Hole (hugely underrated, btw). I know no one from Goal's cast.

Wow, crappy numbers for Poseidon. Wouldn't have thought it could get that low. Bye, bye, $100m...
Decent hold for MI3. Maybe $140m - $150m is still doable. It'd deserve it...

It seems like having the word "luck" in your title, is one of the most unlucky things a studio can do.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/search/?q=luck&p=.htm
Just My Luck, Lucky Numbers (huge flop), Lucky Number Slevin
Other than Good Night and Good Luck, and Joy Luck Club, "luck" brings hardly any "luck" at all!

The WB'S spin: "Poseidon is on track for a solid bow above recent big budget endevours like Aeon Flux and Gigli."

but maybe this could be a sign for a summer slump and you get cut your income by 30 percent????? I dont know but the Red Bull buy seems cooler to me...........

Looks like early May is no longer prime real-estate for opening blockbusters.

The only reason MI3 held up well is because it was a great weekend for holdovers. It's frontloaded, and will drop more next weekend.

It bombed because people just weren't interested in it, not because it was a bad film.

No offense, but this and statements about the downfall of movies is sooo dumb!!! Just release good movies that the people want!!
People don't care about gamblers away on a cruise boat only to see it sink. The tidal wave is hardly even mentioned, and had no affect on any other place. There was nothing new or exciting about this movie. No undone special effects or exciting casting/plot twists of note. It was just a basic survival story, and according to most reviews, not the greatest one either. (This was nonrelated to Cotton's post)

I think it's gonna be damn close.. The numbers between POSEIDON and MI:3 is less than a Million I think and that's what the weekend total will be.. Tonight, the Parking Lot wasn't even 30% Full for a Saturday Night at 8:15 PM..

BKB, you're going to be about $6 million off on Mission: Impossible III. You nailed Poseidon, but you're completely off on M:I-3, as I said last night.

The Parking Lot Remote Viewing Report for Box Office needs some fine tuning..
