I'm thinking $25M opening weekend, $60M total.

What are you guys basing these insanely high predictions on?

Could it be the fact that it's President's Day weekend, it's a teen comedy (almost identical to that popular Scary Movie series), and the trailer has got great reactions? Possibly?
Also, you may want to check out xiayun's reasoning on the second page. It's something even I didn't remember before making my prediction.

I think 50 First dates also had Valentines Day.
I'm seeing more along 25 4day.

From who? People who went to see The Ringer?
$20 million opening tops.

4-day weekend (with a lot of schools off on Friday and Monday), PG-13, comedy (Big Momma's huge opeing and Fun With Dick and Jane's excellent post-Holiday legs show a wanting for a good comedy).
If this makes less than $30 million in 4 days (let alone 3 days), I'll be utterly shocked.
Thegun wrote: I think 50 First dates also had Valentines Day. Yes, but look at Hitch and Constantine from last year. In Hitch's second weekend (after Valentine's day and all), it still achieved $36.7 million, while Constantine got $33.6 million. It's a big weekend. The Dark Shape wrote: $20 million opening tops.
Ridiculous.
Someone bet me, please. This is just too easy.

Even John Q opened to $23.6 million over 4-day. You have to go all the way back to year 2000 with Whole Nine Yard to see a film with less than $20M President's Day weekend gross. Date Movie is already at No. 10 on the Yahoo Top Movie list and has the No. 5 most watched trailer, even though its trailer wasn't even listed on the Yahoo trailer page (that means people are actually actively searching for it). Sorry, I can't see this fail.

I have to admit that I'm impressed with the ranking at yahoo especially given that the buzz is without yahoo featuring it anywhere.
I think the appeal is somewhat limited though, this isn't Scary Movie IMO. I don't think it will have 35m for the 4 days, but I (sadly) can't see under 25m.

Okay. If it doesn't get a $30 million 4-day, I get what? And if it does, you get what?

$30 million? You said "$20 million max" earlier.
$25 million 4-day for the bet?
For the bet, um... I don't like signature bets or avatar bets. They're kinda stupid. I'll go see a movie of your choice if I lose, and you'll do the same (with some restrictions, which can be discussed later)?

I don't know, it just doesn't look appealing to me at all and I've seen all the Scary Movies and laughed at the music-less Scary Movie 4 trailer. I chuckled maybe once in Date Movie's trailer, it's so lacking in originality that it actually threw in a Michael Jackson joke at the end, I guess hoping it would garner the same positive reaction as the Scary Movie 3 trailer! Anyway I wouldn't be surprised if it underperforms, to me it looks more like a stinker than a moderate hit. I'm not willing to bet anything on it though

Works for me, but you said you'd be stunned if it didn't get $30m 4-day

Better to meet half way.
I don't want another Doom or Walk the Line or any other movie I betted on in the past.

He'll like that. Make him go see Good Night and Good Luck or something. Make Dark Shape watch Cabin Fever again if he loses.

Well not off hand but I remember it being also very high, I've been on the boards for a while and I remember being extremely excited about Not Another Teen Movie, so it stuck with, obviously I could be wrong though. I'm not saying this will perform like NATM, because In fact I think this looks funny and will be much more profitable.

Actually, I have no evidence to back it up, it was something I rmemebered though. I checked records, nothing is found, so disavow.

Okay, I change my mind. This will do $35 million on the weekend. The television commercials are BRILLIANT. Even I want to see this film as a guilty pleasure now.
PEACE< Mike.

That'll work, then. After When a Stranger Calls I have absolutely no faith in teenagers, so I'm sure this will open to over $60 million. Still, a "you see my movie!" kind of bet works for me.

Yep, this will be huge. Should make over 100 million total and spawn a franchise.

Heh.
WASC will make $22M in three days, and our bet for Date Movie is for $25M in four days. Just too easy.
