I really must be the only one that even though I think MI3 will shart on MI2, it will have such a drop off and do the worst of the series. Though i pretty much think all of the may films will kill the potential, I would have spread one out to late July or August, (thats where I would have put the Divinci Code.)

I think this could perform similarily to The Perfect Storm. The film looks exciting and it is a great film to open the summer box office season. Plus, I think it benefits from not having a suposed superstar like Pitt.
55 opening
178 total
320 WW

opening weekend-70 million in about 3500 theaters. solid weekdays thanks to good word of mouth. may 19th, the biggest box office weekend of the year, arrives n this has solid word of mouth n is the main action choice. 38 million second weekend. more good but great holds over the week n a 18 million 3 day/25 million 4 day over memorial day.
70/225. bewats out MI3 but loses to X3 n DA VINCI in the battle of may, but beats x3 worldwide.

Note: Warner Bros struggles a lot to get big openings for its films that don't start with Harry Potter.

i wouldnt say that; warner brothers usually makes the best film sof the year so they all have legs but when they want to they can make some mad huge hype machines. harry potters, matrix reloeaded are the most recent n supermans probably next. this also seems to be getting some big marketing with trailer with kong n super bowl spot. troy would opened to 60 million with ease had it not been rated r.

I'll have to go higher. If this film is marketed well like I think it will, and future trailers/commercials look like the Superbowl spot, this could really open well. Of course, it'll die quickly with the competition.
55/135.

Its a studio Franchise, almost all have one, the fact is that most films that arent in the studio's franchise will gross less. I think WB always has a good lineup as far as blockbusters for the most part, and I think Posiden should be more on the DAT side.
Fox had Star Wars,
Sony has Spiderman
WB had Batman, Superman, Harry Potter, and the Matrix

You cant deny that on paper WB usually have BO gold - but apart from Potter none have really fulfilled their potential. There is always a BUT. ie. Reloaded opened MEGA HUGE "but" didnt make $300m. T3 did well "but" made an ok $150m.
Now on to Troy - DP07 is right - it hade HUGE buzz. It led me to making one of my worst predictions ever ($310m total).
Posidon will be lucky to make $100m.

I think that is a little weak if you ask me. I mean it looks boat loads better than the Day After Tomorrow and has a better cast. It will probably at least 50 million, and should at least gross 130 million. And I think that is the worst case scenario. I'm thinking around 60 million open and around 170-190total.

I just saw the preview for it. Not that bad, but hardly a sure thing. At best I can see it performing like The Perfect Storm, a solid summer movie. At worst, it could be another Kingdom of Heaven, which wound up proving that not every early summer tentpole flick attracts a decent flock.
Right now, I'm leaning towards 35/110

I would hardly think WB was that happy in the end with the Matrix franchise.

The SB ads wasn't bad. I think that with effective marketing it can get: 28m/80m. It might still be another Stealth though.

Really?
I think that's a load of poppycock. Those films grossed about 2 billion dollars WW. I'd say they were happy with them.

I think this film has all the makings of a pretty big hit. Once there are few more trailers out, I think the appetite for a film like this will be, ( no pun intended) insatiable. It's the perfect time of year for it to come out as well.

I guess it could work if they infuse it with a lot of elements from different genres. Likewhat Titanic did...heh.

Even with all the competition, it looks like a solid hit this summer. I'll stick with 55/135.

After seeing trailer 2, that seems about right to me too. Nothing huge but a good solid hit.

Aside from what looks like some weak acting on behalf of the captain, the new trailer was fantastic. Best of all, it looks like they saved a lot of the most prominent eye candy for the movie/TV spots. As said, a 50-55 million opening and 135-145 million finish seem safe.
