just take the starwars storyline and stick it in an epic/fantasy/Lord of the Ringsish world and you have Eragon, there is absolutely nothing origonal about this movie, it will be mediocre to the last degree, but I fully expect a 200m+ gross do to it using the magic formula.

I have seen some footage about 4-.5 months ago and it looked bad, but it was very early and unedited. If they really push it well, it can pass $200 million simply because there is no other epic fantasy flick coming out this winter. Charlotte's Web looks like another Babe and certainly not like a $200+ million grosser.

Fox knows this is their only big movie this year aside from X-3 so I think they'll really push the marketing for this movie, and we all know how good Fox is at marketing their big hits and blockbusters.

Sorry to sound like Mav, but you obviously have no idea how popular and well-known it is in the US. I'd bet good money that at LEAST 2/3 of people under the age of 30 have read the book, and that 90% of the total population at least knows the book. The buzz should be higher then Eragon's.

Well-known and popular is one thing. $200+ million is another. You don't make $200+ million on popularity and fanbase alone. Only Star Wars, Harry Potter and LOTR can achieve that. Others need to expand on their "fanbase" and popularity immensly.

And that's the difference between Lemony Snicket and Narnia...

ya see, fox and w.b. are 2 totally companies.
w.b. never seems to struggle with quality, but many of their movies seem to UNDER preform due to poor marketing campaigns.
fox always seems to struggle with quality, but many of their movies OVER preform due to great marketing campaigns.
fox is the best marketing studio around flat out. that will get this great opening then holiday legs.

As part of my job I have to pitch films for promotional partners several months to a year in advance, over 50 to date for the year and every single one of them has been familiar with WEB.
How many were familiar with ERAGON?
2. Both bookstore owners.
Granted that's exactly the same response I got on Lemony Snicket as well until I said "It's the next Jim Carrey movie"
I would put Web as familiar with the North American audience or close to, How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

Teaser should be coming out online in the next week.
Is that just speculation or official about the trailer.

If Fox makes this a big hit, looks like they have a new franchise to mine on after X-Men.
