You're lucky the forum is so dead, Thegun. More respected posters than me and Algren would tell you that you're being ridiculous.

Zwacks, I could literally say "tits and fucks" as my response to every thread from here on out and never be the laughing stock of the forum that you guys are.
The PSA adjustment is an extremely smart move. Sure it's probably only within 20% error. But it gives the idea.
Point in place so Algren can understand: Rocky III adjusts to 345 million, it's opening to 34 million. It was a huge Memorial Day weekend opener that today would be understandably higher. Using the PSA its opening adjusts to 146 million. Granted I doubt it would have been that high. But people loved Rocky so much at the time that when you compare it today, there is a good chance that it probably would have opened to 100+ today if you really think about it, and compare it today's marketplace. Not to mention it couldn't make 345 million off a 34 million opening. (Even you can see that)
The point is ROTJ was a big deal even if its opening only adjusts to 59 million.
Do I think ROTJ opened to 270 million in todays business. Of course not, but the phenom was certainly bigger than JW.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
The 2 original SW sequels are the most anticipated and market share dominant films in history bAR nothing else. I find the thinking that the brand will magically return to that status is silly, but that doesn't change it. Those adjustments are very silly, BTW. An accurate representation would something like $180m or something TRULY absurd.
OW tickets to those movies were like Super Bowl tickets in all serious.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I am hyper conflicted with predicting SW opening weekend I don't really see the possibility of it doing 250m OW at this point in time. AGAINST : Does it have cross over appeal to all quadrants and all races?? It is opening in a notoriously slow week for movies. Doing ~24% more than any movie ever is really a stretch. The IMAX screens are reserved for a month indicating to me a month long goal of dominance rather than a massive OW. I've seen massive tweet counts before while not translating to $$ (Twilight sequels). Its easy to "like" a movie on FB without committing to see it on opening weekend. We do not know running time and if the release will be moved to Wednesday. FOR: I assume the majority of screens OW will be 3d and larger format in order to force ticket buyers to pay the premium and pad the coffers. There is a ton of hype and the crossover marketing and product placement is going to be literally everywhere. We do not know running time and if the release will be moved to Wednesday.
I will research further but appreciate any and all feedback

While I believe a $615m WW opening is certainly possible, I think Deadline's prediction of a $300m opening domestically is pretty silly...

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/s ... uld-819004The report says they expect the film to gross around $2 billion at the global box office, netting nearly $1.2 billion in revenue for the company and putting it behind only "Avatar" and "Titanic" A $800 million break-even point would suggest a $250 million budget. I'm guessing a $150 million P&A budget.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Wasn't there supposed to be a new trailer today? My excitement for this is dying. I'm interested because I love Star Wars, not because of anything that I've actually seen. I'm dying to see some footage that looks unique to this film instead of something that would easily fit in any of the OT films. Say what you will about the prequels, but they at least certainly had their own aesthetic unique from the OT.
From the trailers, it looks like after the Empire falls, the New Order is formed, and the Jedi have to fight them. I was really hoping Finn was actually a stormtrooper, but nope, he's a Jedi. Sounds like a rehash.

Also, apparently places were hugely understocked for Force Friday and there are already items for over twice the MSRP on eBay.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Zwackwerm is in the small list of words Webster is thinking of including in its next edition. So close!
And there is no indication he is a Jedi. Luke may have just been killed or injured and he is protecting him. Han used a saber in OT too. It'd be downright fun if a non Jedi had a saber.
One thing is for sure right now. The toys are gonna rock. That droid thing looks incredible.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I actually adore Rev's passion for this franchise. I wish it was just that, but he often tops it off with a layer of "crazy Star Wars fan". He would even be giddy at the thought of Star Wars VIII being a four-hour experimental film titled Lucas's Morning Routine: Return of the Shit, Shower, Shave.
