I dont think it'll be extermely loved, it'll probably end up around 70-80% at RT, which is good.

Interesting promotional information for Sin City fans...

http://www.videobusiness.com/

MARCH 21 | Starting March 27, electronics chain Best Buy will give out free DVDs promoting April 1 theatrical release Sin City, from Dimension.

Consumers will be able to get the teaser DVDs--which contain a trailer, behind-the-scenes interviews and scenes from the film--with the purchase of any CD, DVD or videogame. Also included are promos for Dimension movies currently on DVD and $50 worth of Best Buy coupons toward purchases of those titles. The giveaway will be featured prominently in the March 27 circular.

The chain first tried this type of theatrical cross-promotion with last March's Hellboy, giving out more than 300,000 teaser DVDs in the few weeks before the movie's premiere. On Sin City , the giveaway window is only a week long, so Best Buy will give out about 150,000 discs this time, according to Rob Cummins, business team leader for movies.

"We identified properties like Hellboy and now Sin City quite a ways out, and our goal is to give our customers something that ? will put them in the know amongst their peer group about what's cool and exciting," Cummins said. This sort of theatrical marketing rewards customers for coming into the store regularly and builds loyalty, he added.

There's an upside for the studios involved as well.

"The theatrical division sees it as a grassroots opportunity to promote their movie beyond just what they'll do on TV, and home video sees it as a chance to probably sell some catalog," Cummins said.

front loading is not that bad, think about it the only films that have had bad legs are the horror/thriller films (Constantine included) and films that were just not recieved well. The only exception to that I can see is Coach Carter. The films that have been recieved well this year and have had outstanding legs are, In Good Company, Soon to be Robots, Hitch, Are We There Yet, The Racing Stripes, and many more.

Most of the hard drops this year have been from massive theater losses, or large storms. As long as Sin City can hold up well for the second wknd (anything under 50%) than it could pull off a great multiplyer.

DOAMBW seems to have had good wom, but it dropped anyway. Constantine as well.

Horror and action films tend to drop the most every year, and since this is an action film, it should be no different.

I'm pretty sure Racing Stripes did not have good WOM (mediocre B- at Yahoo), and besides Hitch, the rest you mention (BTW, you forgot The Pacifier) seem to have had decent wom, but nothing special. Most of those held up well because they were family films, while IGC was aimed at older audiences. Hitch was the one huge WOM hit this year, but even it, as a romantic comedy, is in a leggy genre.

You can't compare Sin City to any of those films. It's mostly about the genre, not WOM. Why does nearly every action film drop while family films hold up well? If it were WOM, you would think audiences would long ago have abandoned action films.

I would seriously consider betting my life that Sin City does not drop less then 50% in the second weekend. This film is nearly as naturally frontloaded as they get.

I think there are a few films each year for which the legs are majorly affected by WOM, but for the vast majority that neither have fantastic WOM nor horrible WOM, the effect is minor. SC might be among the few, like Kill Bill Vol. 1, with amazingly positive WOM, but I would not count on it.

your right, so Im going to increase my opening wknd prediction a bit and give it around a 3.2 multiplyer.

Holy crap, they were actually thinking of cutting this movie to a PG-13 rating. Well just a rumor

Here's a review by James Berardinelli
http://movie-reviews.colossus.net/master.html

Gave it 3 1/2 stars outta 4 Fantastic score for the movie, he doesnt give many 3 1/2

Quote:
Sin City is the most visually inventive comic book adaptation to make its way to a movie screen. While other directors have attempted to remain faithful to the look and "feel" of their source material, Robert Rodriguez has taken things a step further, by using Frank Miller's graphic novels as storyboards and immersing the audience neck-deep in the noir currents of Miller's den of iniquity. It's easy to get lost in Sin City. There's something to appreciate around every corner - the gritty characters, the uncompromising story, and, most of all, visuals to astound and amaze. "Eye candy" doesn't even begin to describe what Rodriguez has accomplished.

Quote:
Rumor has it that some of the studio executives behind Sin City were looking for a way to get the film a PG-13 rating. Having seen the final cut, it's mind-boggling to believe that such a watered-down version was ever considered. The violence in this movie may be stylized, but there's far too much of it for the MPAA to consider a PG-13. Plus, there's plenty of nudity: Jamie King bears her breasts and Carla Gugino spends about 50% of her limited screen time wearing little or nothing. I'm glad Rodriguez stuck to his guns; a PG-13 version of Sin City would have been a crime. The one that exists is a pleasure.

Good thing that didnt happen \:D/

Alba was just on Letterman. She looked hot, of course, and the clip they showed really pumped me up for this movie. It's when Bruce Willis first sees her again (he saved her from being raped when she was a little girl) and she's warming up on the stage with the rope. He's doing narration as he describes her. Too cool!

Info on the DVD

Quote:
Robert Rodriguez on Sin City's DVD:

Rodriguez has a very elaborate DVD planned for the movie already. "We shot the full stories of the books, and I knew we could truncate it down, knowing that we weren't going to lose any scenes; eventually they would all be available for people to see. So the DVD will come out with the theatrical cut, and then there'll be a separate disc that's got the individual episodes separated with their own title card, and you can just watch The Big Fat Kill from beginning to end, the full cut. That's a single story, and then switch over and watch The Yellow Bastard and that's forty five minutes. It'll have all the material back in. So it'll be like the experience of picking up the book, where you pick up one story and you read it from beginning to end. And it'll have all the material in it. You can shuffle your own version of the movie and just watch them all separately… And then I'm gonna add on a twenty minute film school, probably for this one, cause there's so many things and I want another ten minute cooking school to be 'Sin City breakfast tacos'; which I'll make a home-made flour tortilla, and it's the best meal you can probably ever learn."

I've been asking around if people are gonna watch this movie.

It turns out, alot of people want to see it because, "It reminds them of Sky Captain and the World of Tommowrow". Pretty suprising in my opinion, considering, I thought that movie sucked.

Still, this is the first movie on my anticipation list that is being released.

I actually see a similar run to Kill Bill Vol 2.
